Hello Group, Well it has been a while since I posted anything to this weekly thread. Here is a simple out-of-the-box build of a Branchline 10-1-2 plan sleeper in ACL paint. This was one of those kits that Atlas was selling off a while ago to clear out their old Branchline inventory. I tried selling just the kit on eBay for like $12 bucks and got zero bids. So, I built it. The assembled kit is up for auction now and has some watchers. I guess most people don’t want to build kits anymore! These cars are beautiful, but too old for my modeling era. As a side note, I used Vallejo Yellow Olive (p/n: 71.013) for touch-ups and to paint the hand rails on this car. It’s not a perfect match, but close. Vallejo is fast becoming one of my favorite paint; easy to use bottle, sprays well, and has good coverage (brush or spray). Thanks, Mark

As usual, lovely weathering on the freight cars Mark! Spot on. Is the Kellogg a Tangent 4740?
The Genesis PC&F SP boxcar class appears to have been among a type that included Evergreen repaints, as well as similar to BKTY common wealth boxcars. When I looked up the car number on that model it appeared to match a class that had roof walks when delivered.
Some related stuff from Lee G's site.
"In the mid/late 1960's, the SP wanted to ensure a ready supply of box cars for transporting lumber from the Pacific northwest to California. Through a subsidiary affiliate company, Evergreen Leasing, they started ordering box cars that the SP would lease for lumber loading. These cars were delivered in green paint with Evergreen name and EFCX reporting marks. They also carried SP class desingations. Later, they would be transferred to SP proper and given SP reporting marks and numbered in the 29xxxx series."
Also regarding the BKTY:
"The Commonwealth Plan Cars Page
The SP purchased a number of freight cars through their Banker's Leasing Corporation subsidiary and leased them back to the MKT railroad for a period of 15 years in the mid 1960's. These cars carried BKTY or MKT reporting marks and were painted in the Katy's red scheme with the Katy herald, but carried SP class designations. Two groups of covered hoppers also carried BLCX reporting marks and some were re-stenciled SP in the 1980's."

Good evening, finally got home from the Bowling Tournament again this week. I managed to finish a couple of cars this week. Atlas (Ex Branchline) 40' Boxcar Kit. Used the coorect ends and roof to replicate the TH&B 40' Boxcars ordered in 1949 and 1953 from National Steel Car. Car was painted in the Tiger Cat #2 Scheme (to homor the Hamilton Tiger Cat Football Team) which was used from 1955 on. Also added the 1967 Canada Centennial with the Green Maple Leaf which was added in 1966 and 67 to the cars. Car was used for clean lading service like flour and sugar. Painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow and Black Paints then lettered with Aberdeen Car Shops decals. Next up an Athearn 2893CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray paint and letted with Microscale Decals. Many of these cars were used to move Soda Ash for various industrial and home uses. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Mid '70s on the D&RGW were some of the best in the history of the company, the modeling possibilities are endless. Great work. TopGrüße Sven

My Scale Trains N&W SD40-2 on the Coshocton Model RR Club today along with some of my Southern power. Do you guys do operating sessions? I'm in Columbus and asked that question on the facebook page, but I never got an answer. Looking for a place to run trains / operate. Thanks!

Excellent stuff! Who makes that PTTX bulkhead flat? Or is that a custom built job?

Finally got a chance to work on something this weekend. Installed a Moloco ACF draft gear pocket into an Atlas 60' ACF box. An un-altered car is on the left, the modified one at right with a Sargent coupler. I still have to make un-coupling bars for this car. Unfortunately after I got everything back together I realized that the draft gear should have been body color. Oh well back apart with it. The frame rails on the Moloco part line up very nicely with the Atlas under frame.

Nice work on that draft gear conversion. Model Master British Crimson will be a good starting point to match the underframe to the body on that Rock Island boxcar.

Thanks, I'll have to see if I can grab some. I have a plug door for the other one that will need painting too.
