Now that retailers are starting to receive their shipments of the new Walthers Mainline SOO wide vision caboose, I have gathered up most of the parts I will be using to upgrade mine.

I'm excited to see how your caboose turns out! I made some Micro-Matic outlet gates and applied them to an Atlas pellet hopper. They're extremely rare on ACF hoppers, but what the heck. I also replaced the heavy stirrups on several of my pellet cars, but some touch-up painting remains. I spent most of my modeling time this week getting running boards installed and decals on the Rail Shop carbon black hopper I modified. These photos are pretty underexposed, so I'll try to replace them when I get some better light. [Edit: photos have been replaced] Next victim is this Scale Trains 4727cf Thrall carbon black hopper. The version Scale Trains did is a 1996 and later model that very closely follows a 1974 design. I'm backdating this model to the 1974 style by changing out the roof and side stakes. Here it is with the side stakes removed:

Ryan, I'll definitely be watching to see how that Scaletrains rebuild goes. I have a pair of Proto 0-8-0s purchased without tenders and some other parts, and I decided to get started with printing their replacements. So far I have this tender frame, which is basically a slightly lengthened version of the normal USRA tender these would have.

An easy project this week, I've added cut bars and the train line to this Athearn NACC 8K tank car, the truck have been swapped for friction bearing types, ACI and COTS plates bring it into the '70s. The car was weathered entirely with AK Interactive Chalks, I'm really enjoying the results I've gotten with them so far.

Great pictures everyone. I would have thought this would be the Cinco de Mayo thread!

Got a couple of more cars done this week! First is a West Indies Fruit Boxcar, the West India Fruit company was started in 1946 as a car ferry operation between Palm Beach, FL and Havana Cuba. Started out with some used PRR X29 type cars and some old reefers. These cars were purchased in 1952 from ACF and utilized ACF Roof and Carbuilder ends. This operation ended in 1962 after the Cuba embargo stopped operations. Car is an IMRC 40' AAR Welded side boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red paint and lettered with Speedwitch Media decals. Next another P&LE PS2 2893CF Covered Hopper (Athearn) kit, painted in the latter scheme after the PC merger. While part of the PC the P&LE still operated as a separate railroad and was spun off as the PC owed the P&LE some $16 Million after the bankruptcy. Kit was painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray and lettered with Microscale Decals. Tangent PS3 Hopper car kit under construction, most of the basic car is complete, all that is needed is to add all the detail parts. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Was out of town this weekend and was working OT during the week so didn't get a whole lot done. However as is tradition, I try to hit hobby shops when I go out of town. Some scores which one fits in with the theme (finding the styrene that makes the stiffener ribs on the IMRC PS 4750s I'm building/repairing was a nice bonus):
