Back in the days before DCC took hold, I had a set of Life Like GP 20s That, because of their motors, I couldn't use in a train with Atlas or Kato locomotives. They weren't noisy, and did run well, just frustratingly slowly. At the time, I worked for a hobby shop, so in a fit of inspiration, I ordered up a pair of Kato motors. When the motors arrived, I disassembled the Geeps, and removed the motors. Using a puller, I removed the flywheels, then installed those on the Kato motors. Installing the Kato motors into the frames was a matter of dropping the motors into the little plastic frame, and snapping the frame into the main frame of the Geeps. I put everything back together, and test ran them. The difference was incredible. I now had two GP20s that ran like Kato or Atlas engines, and they quickly became favorites on my home layout. Here are a few photos of them:

Sorry about the fuzzy photos, the camera of the day was not very good at close-up photos.

Great work, Terry and those little Geeps look terrific. I have always liked the short GP20s with the sloped noses.
