Happy Sunday folks! Here's a couple easy weathering projects I finished this week. A Rapido 3800CF cylindrical, perhaps a doubtful visitor to the D&RGW in the mid '70s, but a great model of an interesting car (I like cylindrical hoppers) so I had to have one. This model was weathered AK Interactive chalks. An Atlas 11k Chlorine tank, while built in the '50s it's perfect for the mid '70s, even with friction bearing trucks

Some stuff completed this week! Here is another West India Fruit Boxcar, in 1958 (probably due to all the salt air corrosion) the WIF repainted all their boxcars into this new scheme of green with yellow lettering. Intermountain 1944 Welded side AAR Boxcar kit, painted with Scalecoat II Hunter Green Paint and lettered with Speedwitch Media decals. Jumping forward 20 years is a Proto 2000 PS 4427 CF Covered Hopper Kit. The C&NW acquired around 500 of these cars in 1969 after they came off the original TLDX leases when the leases expired. They were originally painted in C&NW Green with yellow lettering, and repainted in the late 70's in the Zito Yellow with black lettering. Car was painted with Scalecoat II C&NW Yellow Paint and lettered with Oddballs decals. Also added a Plano etched metal roofwalk to the kit. Since Ed showed off his new P5a's, here are my new Rapido CP FP7's. I have always liked the CP Script Scheme! Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

T-bird--I love the weathering on both the hopper and the tank car. I am intrigued about the flat car on the right side of both photos. What is the load?

Were the Oddball decals something you had on hand, or is Tom back in business?

I finished a Walthers SW1 for the iconic Atlantic Great Eastern layout. These Walthers SW1's are great little engines with some basic detail work. Its got a Loksound V4 in it, along with a keep alive and working front and rear class lights. Its a neat little engine, and has an interurban sound. I put a Wabco AA2 horn on it (Kato part), and Loksound has a fantastic recording of one in the library.

Been wanting to do this for a very long time and finally did it. A what if BNSF kept the few F45's they had until the early 2000's and painted them in modern H3 paint? Stripped an athearn genesis f45, used tru-color paints and a mix of microscale decals. Not done yet, still need to add the final bottom stripe and the top stripes then bnsf logos and seal it. I think it looks great so far. 0615191129_HDR by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 0615191657 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Finally painted and started decalling my NYSW SD33ECO i started a long time ago. 0601191727_HDR by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 0601191817_Burst01 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 0601191726a by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

I was able to paint all three carbon black cars earlier this week. A little while ago in the wee hours after work I put the decals on this car. I'm going to have to wait for better weather to put a coat of clear on it though.

Thanks Jim,
It's a Tangent '60 flat with a (if I recall correctly) JL Innovations load, I made the sign on the computer, it's on Tangent's website too.
Best, Mark

Stock Atlas on the Dow tank car, those cars had such long lives they're good for a lot of layouts.

I really like that Dow car. Any tank car experts able to comment on whether the solid steel walkways are prototypical? I've tried in vain to find that out myself, it's easy to spot open grid but much harder to say whether solid ones are wood or diamond plate.

This model was weathered AK Interactive chalks. Excellent weathering as usual. If it is any comfort, I've seen a Canadian Cylindrical hopper in a freight train in one of my books - I think it was Rio Grande: Ruler of the Rockies, by RC Farewell. The photo was probably from the early 80's and it was a light gray cylindrical but Canadian stuff did show up various freight train photo's. The cool thing about the D&RGW is nearly anything was possible in freight trains at one time or another! I spent the a couple days working on the basement ceiling; wife and were cutting ceiling tiles to fit in non standard size perimeter sections and I finished the last of the four train room ceiling grid areas. We also have the basement bathroom to work on as part of the finishing project. The neighbor is working on a fence which we are sharing the cost with so that ate up Sunday running to get a load of fence slats. I'm estimating a couple more months on the basement (finish all ceilings/lights, bathroom and floors).

Adam, the one type of tank car Kadee has produced is based on the same type of ACF design as the Atlas 11,000 gallon car like the Dow one shown in this thread. Its version of the walkway all around the car is see-through. The Kadee car is more finely detailed throughout than the Atlas car. I have many of the Atlas ones and, so far, just one of the Kadees. The parts of the Kadee tank car are so delicate and the way they go together so complicated that the firm doesn't offer them as kits. This is also true for their open offset twin hoppers and two-bay PS-2 covered hoppers, although it does offer unlettered versions of those. Kadee does offer numerous unlettered boxcar kits of several PS-1 types

I've steered clear of them since I don't have much interest in replacing the walkway. I'm fairly certain that was just a compromise on Atlas' part since the prototypes went to Apex walkways while still on riveted frames, so it follows that just about any welded-frame car should be similarly equipped. Agreed that the Kadee car is much nicer, I've got one disassembled so I can replace some of the more fiddly plastic parts with wire.

The Atlas car certainly won't win any contests, ok as a layout car, the walkway being the worst part of it. Interestingly, the railing that runs around the car is quite good, better than Tangent's stock one. In this pic I've added a cut bar to the Atlas car and rebuilt the Tangent car's railing.
