I have an Atlas GP40-2 with an ESU LokSound Select Sound-Decoder, and would like to have the MARS light and ditch lights come on automatically upon Startup/Powerup! Is this possible? If so What CV's and values should I enter? Just for reference , I do not have the LokSound programmer.
Thanks, Schooner

Is it a factory install or one you did yourself ?
Mark.

Assuming they are currently on F5 and F6, set the following in the order shown ....
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2 ---------------------- CV354 = 128 CV371 = 2

Hey Mark, I was looking at my quick start guide that came with the engine.... well this make a difference?
F5 = Dynamic Brake (1st push on/2nd push off) Only active when prime mover sound on Latching F6 = Optional Ditch Lights (1st push on/2nd push off) Latching F11 = AUX3 Function Output (1st push on/2nd push off) Preset to MARS Light Latching

Just configure headlights and aux for MARS as part of F8 "on".

Are you certain about those functions ? F11 DOES work the Mars light ? If that is the case, this will set F6 and F11 to be on, on power up .... CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2 ---------------------- CV371 = 2 CV452 = 8 Mark.

Just configure headlights and aux for MARS as part of F8 "on". While that "would" work, it leaves you no way to turn them off without shutting down the prime mover. By inverting the function(s), they will be on by default, yet you can still turn them off by turning the function button ON. Mark.

Huh ! How old a model is it ? Need you to verify that in fact the functions are F6 and F11 that you need modded. I'm certain they are using AUX1 and AUX2, but they could be mapped to any function number.
Does the instruction manual for what each function does match what it ACTUALLY does ? Was it new or used ? If used, somebody may have re-mapped the functions.
Not sure what you are using for programming, but you may need to power-cycle after each change for it to take. Just tilt the engine off the rail for a second and set it back down. Those last setting I gave you "should" have worked for standard Atlas settings.

Hey Mark, It was new from the Train Shack in Burbank, about a year ago. I have reset all CV values (CV 8 = 8) on a couple occasions, and I have set the DCC long address to the engine number. I'll give those values a try again later today or tonight. And as far as I know, the functions do match, such as on my NCE Powercab I push option (button) then the 1 (button) to get the MARS light to come on... Thanks, Schooner PS Using the Quick Start Guide, DC and DCC Operation of Atlas Gold Series Diesel Locomotives, equipped with an ESU LokSound Select Sound-Decoder, 20 November 2013, Version 1.7, ESU Firmware Version 4.7.9148 or later That came with the engine, tried to send you some small .jpg but the forum says "Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Mark, I just recieved this from ESU, I'll let u know what happens.....
Schooner, The CVs to make the Mars and headlights come on with track power are. CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2 ---------------------- CV257 = 36 CV273 = 40 CV354 = 128 CVs 31 & 32 are index CVs that must be set before you program the higher CVs. Our decoders do not have a way to automatically trigger the horn and bell when you start moving. Best Regards,

Hey Mark, So Here's what I emailed this morning to ESU, waiting to hear back...
"So I input those CV values but only the headlights come on with power, which is awesome, but the MARS light did not come on, so just for kicks performed a CV8 = 8 to reset to factory settings just incase I enter something wrong and re-inputed those CV values in the order you said, same result tho.... Also a side effect occurs when I enter those CV values, and start to increase power to the engine, it starts up for a few seconds than acts as if it’s coming to a stop, and starts up again... Any ideas ?"

You are just adjusting the ditch lights and the mars light, I don't understand the need for the third upper register CV you were given. (?) Wish ESU had the actual file Atlas used in the GP40-2. There are a number of Atlas files on their download page, but not that specific one .... although the programming seems to be consistent among their files.

So Mark Don't hate me to much, I meant to say MARS Light and Headlight, my GP40-2 Phase 2 dosen't have ditch lights, I'm assuming that may have throw everything off..... In any case ESU (Alec Herman) got back to me yesterday with these vales and it worked!!
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2 ---------------------- CV257 = 36 CV273 = 40 CV452 = 8 Please remember to change CVs 31 & 32 before you change the other CVs.
Thanks for all you help and patients.. Catch you later, Schooner

Well that explains the third upper register CV then. Glad you got it working, I really couldn't understand why it wasn't.
