I don't get the new TCS throttle. It looks like a cell phone from 20 years ago.

I don't get the new TCS throttle. It looks like a cell phone from 20 years ago. Would you rather have all touch screen controls. Personally I find it too easy to touch the wrong part of the screen on my smart phone, something that could have bad results on train running. So I prefer buttons and knobs for a throttle. It looks like the two wifi throttles have been selling well and the feed back I've seen and reviews have been very positive. Another advantage it you break free from the proprietary throttles offered by the DCC system makers, such as Digitrax, NCE or Lenz, etc.

You know I'm like half one way on this and half another. So for example with this new blunami I'd use my cell phone because that's the way it works. I still kinda favor the custom device. In fact what I really really want is open interface there, and let the market do it thing. If it turns out that's a I dunno Gameboy device for many, then so it is...

There are several independent developments regarding wireless throttles using the wiThrottleServer interface present in JMRI and some command stations. One of the oldest is the ProtoThrottle but although it looks great is also very expensive. From the hobby side there are also several throttles developed. One of them is the wiFred (wireless fremo einfache drehregler). github.com/newHeiko/wiFrednewheiko.github.io/wiFred/documentation/docu_en.htmlThis throttle is based on the layout of the thousands of regular Fred's which are in use within Fremo (a large European modular association. I have a couple of these and the work like a charm without breaking the bank (roughly 60 euro for the components). On the MRH forum somebody also shows an implementation of a WiFi throttle forum.mrhmag.com/post/wifi-throttle-with-jmri-withrottle-server-12408513
