I am in need of a bunch of small detail parts, etc... Any recommendations / words of caution for online dealers that order through Walthers in a semi reasonable timeframe?
Years ago I used to shop at a place (1st place hobbies?) that essentially had no inventory and ordered everything from Walthers and shipped it, all within a week for a discount... They went under, so I guess that business model didn't work well.
I have used "Terminal Hobby Shop" in the past, but everything is at MSRP.
Blue Ridge Hobbies is the only one I have found so far.
Thanks!

Are the detail parts made by Walthers or just sold on Walthers?

Are the detail parts made by Walthers or just sold on Walthers? Sold by. But its multiple companies, and some of the parts I can find at one place but not another, and vise versa. But all at Walthers. I would rather not spend $15 in shipping for 1 $5 part.

You might try j-tprantle on EBay. They stock a large inventory of detail parts from Cal Scale, Details West, Detail Associates, etc. I believe they also now own Precision Scale. Very reliable, discount prices for detail parts, reasonable shipping.

Walthers has had a "short" discount for many years. 33% off retail to dealers on many items, which leaves them little margin to work with. Some large volume dealers try to make up for it on volume, but that is not always a good business model, so some go under.
BLI and Morning Sun Books also have similar "short" discounts. BLI uses a sliding scale; brass hybrids have a smaller percentage to work with than regular engines. And other manufacturers have begun shorting the margin as well.
Most regular storefront dealers have to get 20% of retail to pay the bills; the big warehouses can go less but offer little or no customer service.

I will second this recommendation. While I know a lot of people do not like the "Bay" this seller is very good on combining shipping and doing it fast. I live in NC and usually 3 to 4 days on parts arrivals, all first class mail. I do believe they are the ones that purchased Precision Scale. I generally find out of stock DW and DA parts very reasonable thru them.

BTW, you can send them an email and they give you a discount vs ebay.

Thought I would give an update.
I ended using "Blue Ridge Hobbies".
Overall, the experience was positive. However, they didn't have everything, despite their website (which pings off Walther's) saying they did. Ironically, the main thing I was after, they didn't have.

What is it that you are trying to find? A lot of us stockpile detail parts for "just in case" that we may never use, myself included. Someone here might have what you need and be willing to part with it.
