Unlikely (though I could be wrong) to interest many on here, but people may know some kids or adults into the Steampunk universe and might therefore be interested that Hornby has introduced a range of Steampunk themed model train items including locos, rolling stock, buildings, and people

I'm 58 years old and I have known about steampunk since the early 80s. Of course my other hobbies are Role Playing Games and miniature wargaming. I use the skills that I have learned from model trains and apply them to fantasy figures and vehicles as well as WWI, WWII and modern.

I’m 70 but don’t spend my life just on RR forums, have known about steampunk for quite awhile....takes one back to Jules Verne as well as some 50s Sci-fi Flix, Tom Swift...there’s an oldie..
I don’t see a very receptive audience around here.
Sure some wildly imaginative images out there....if you look...but as I said, no audience for it here.

I've noticed some of the young 'uns into the cosplay scene seem to like donning Steampunk gear and posing in front of old railway equipment at museums and such. If it helps them get into railfanning or model railroading, all the better. Apparently I have a steampunk doppleganger out there:

Unlikely (though I could be wrong) to interest many on here I've thought of the Steampunk "movement" as more of a literary thing. Words and illustrations. Sure, now we have cosplay which is a solid hobby for many folks. Like all things new the steampunk "style" has been with us for quite a while without a fancy name. Disney's 50's movie Nautilus is a good example. But you can go back to Jules Verne and find examples all along the way. But, I won't bore you with a full lecture. I'm retired! Folks love gears. Just stick them on anything, paint them gray and you have Steampunk. Perhaps a good use for all those cracked Life-Like Proto gears.

Steampunk is "unreal". It's a fabrication. To varying degrees, people here are trying NOT to fabricate--they're trying to accurately re-create reality.
So there's different challenges. The one for steampunk is to make something interesting, that could'a might'a been real. Sorta. The one for "us" is to make something realistic. That, of course, doesn't mean that we can't steal from each other. Maybe steampunk manufacturers will make some bits that perfectly fill a purpose, for me. A realistic purpose, mind you.
I hope they have fun--suspect they do.
