Has anyone ever come across any drawings or info on these cars? I found these pics today, and can't help but think one might make an interesting modeling subject. It would appear that some of them made it to at least the mid 80s and got yellow paint, so even you "modern" guys might be interested in them.

They're ex-PRR F30D.
Bowser makes an F30, which I have to suppose is the best choice for building a TTX version.

Thanks Ed,
Having a starting point would be even easier. I was assuming scratch building initially. But why re-invent the wheel, right? Now if I can just nail down what TT did to them.

From the January 1975 ORER: F30d TTX 475001-475086 F30g TTX 475087-475286 There's one under restoration at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35380I should think this is a real research opportunity. One guy said he thought there might have been a modeling article in either Model Railroading or Railmodel Journal. Ed

Do you happen to know if the museum has made any more progress on it?

Cool Stuff, looks like an interesting project - I have an F30 somewhere! TBird, given your skills this would be an excellent undertaking for you. I think one might even fit your era. Let us know when its all done.

Thank you, I'm quite interested in making one and with the info here from you and Ed I think I'll be able to make one, I had no idea that there was a car based on a PRR F30, that's most of the battle right there

I'm giving it pretty serious thought as well, even tho I need another project like a fish needs a bicycle. But its an interesting car and too many people forget the shorter, single trailer cars when putting together a pig train. Plus AMB makes a laser cut wood deck for the Bowser car, that's one more step forward.

I've come across a number of photo's of those short TTX cars. It would be cool if an HO model of them were made available. Besides building a layout and many other things on the waiting list, I'm wishing for a commercially available version. Hey Scale Trains!

That's some great info Ed, that last post was from 2014. Do you happen to know if the museum has made any more progress on it? I do not. It looks like there's a goodly bit of information on these TTX cars. At least, compared to old SP&S passenger cars. For example, there's a couple of good shots of TTX 475051 in Gatwood and Buchan's "Pennsylvania Railroad Flat Cars". Ya might also try finding that article in the magazine--Trainlife has back issues on line. Ed

Stan Rydarowicz wrote an article on kitbashing an F30G in the September 2004 issue of Railmodel Journal. It starts on page 44.

You'll also want to read Trailer Hitches, part 1 by Jim Panza in the same magazine, May 2001, pp 25-29.

The trailer hitch article will be especially rewarding, as it has a nice deck photo of one of the subject cars.
Note that the hitch system on the TTX cars is quite different than on the PRR ones.

I also have a Bowser kit earmarked for a TOFC conversion. Anyone want to do a group build?

I think we should post relevant shots here, I need to go looking at the usual haunts. BTW Thank you Ed for the shot with the GN trailer. I may go looking for an undec F30 and the wood deck, anyone have thoughts as to the type of trailer hitch?

Nice find! For me it does have to be a TOFC car. I model 1975, so the BNSF car is much too new :-) But for a group build, I think any conversion based on the Bowser F30A flat car kit is fair game. There were also earlier TOFC conversions, and other MoW conversions.

I found this annotated photo that I had downloaded from somewhere at some point: If anyone knows where the original comes from, please let me know and I will edit and credit.

Mark, looks like ACF Model A per The TTX Story - Volume 1. Excellent pair of books for anyone interested in TrailerTrain and their cars. Darrell Sawyer

Great pics, Colin. I'll add that the ACF model A hitch also comes with the kit version of the Walthers GSC flatcar if anyone happens to one laying around. Also Details West has some excellent bridge plates, P/N: BP-1017 that look very much like the ones on this car.

I have a few spares which I might be willing to part with if anyone needs them.
