HI-TEC DETAILS PS 40' HI CUBE BOX CAR

For many years I have seen this kit listed on the Walthers catalog, but I've never been able to find any review on the magazines I normally read. Is it worth ordering a couple of them ? Are they correct for the 3 listed railroads (CBQ, MILW and DRGW) ?

I have built a kit and it goes together well, still have not finished it since I have not ordered decals for the IC version from Daniel Kohlberg.

I've always wanted one or two but haven't bought any yet. They weren't all that common on D&RGW so having to build and paint and decal one of those - has been put off.

I've built one and all I can say is, it was an experience. The side ladders were very fragile and I broke every one in half lengthwise removing them from the sprue. I took my time and used sprue cutters and a razor blade. It took a lot longer than I thought...I'm not sure I will build another!

Speaking of Hi-Tech,

I heard a rumor that they are going to offer the Southern Pacific modernized 40 box car, of which I've seen many in freight trains in the 70's, with a diagonal yellow stripe on the door. I would love to see this come out in a decorated model!

Yep it's worth getting. It goes together nicely and with the Kohlberg decals makes a striking little model...

It's been quite some time ago and I don't remember when, but I did read that those cars were definitely accurate for CB&Q. I can't answer with certainty for the others, but I believe they are.
Rick (dti406) is pretty good with his protoype info.
