I just purchased the LokSound 5 DCC Micro w/wires and am trying to program this decoder with the LokSound Programmer. I am getting an error message: "The detected decoder is not supported". I've upgraded the Programmer to V.5.0.13. and still get the same error, so the LokProgrammer should not be the problem. The "Quick Start Guide" that came with the decoder does not show the exact wiring diagram for the #58823 board which I'm trying to program so I'm assuming that the wiring color code for the #58820 shown in the guide is also correct for the #58823 board. The Red and Black wires go to the track connections as shown in the diagram that is given, so that is what Ive been going with, being there is no correct picture diagram for the #58823 that the decoder came with .
I have a #58820 decoder which works fine, and also has an adapter board on it with the same connector on it as the #58823 decoder, only it had a ribbon cable connected to the adapter board instead of just wires. I switched the working decoder (#58820) with the adapter board from the #58823 unit, observing the wiring colors (Red & Black) for the track connections, and it worked fine with the other adapter board having only the wires to make the connections with.
So I'm beginning to wonder if I got a bad decoder. Ive tried everything I could think of and still get the same "The detected decoder is not supported" error message, only with that detector.
I tried reading the Decoder Information in the LokProgrammer getting weird readings like FFFFFFFF for ID, readings of firmware version: n/a(2/7/2136) , boot version: 5.0.10(11/23/2018.)
Any suggestions with this decoder would be greatly appreciated. Roy K.

I have two of those decoders. I had to download a sound file from ESU, and choose the "install sound project" option, rather than try to verify decoder operation first.

You mention connecting the red and black wires to the programmer. Do you have the orange and gray wires connected to a motor? Most decoders won't program without a load (motor) connected to the orange and gray wires.
The ESU Decoder Tester is an easy way to attach a decoder to the programmer. It provides a motor, speaker and LEDs for testing the functions. It has all the different interfaces for connecting decoders including the decoders with just wire leads.
A bad decoder is always a possibility but ESU will replace it if it is found the be defective.

I highly recommend the ESU Decoer tester to use with the LokPragrammer. It makes things so much simpler.
It is also the easiest way to confirm you have all the functions working the way you want them.
