I have just attempted to do a Buy It Now on e Bay and received the following message: "Seller is not accepting bids or offers from you". The seller is my_caboose; I have never bought anything from them. Any idea why I got that message?

The seller could have blocked you from buying from them.

There is a host of reasons that a seller can block you - your specific user id, a combination of canceled bids or failure to pay, your state (not wanting to deal with your sales tax is a common reason), how much feedback you have. Those are a few.
eBay's message is generic and they don't tell you way.

Did you try to contact them to find out the reason why? Could just be a simple mistake. Have you ever purchased from them before?

Bids can be blocked:
- by location (nation) of bidder
- by specific bidder ID
- through eBay settings to block people with too many unpaid item strikes
Have you ever done business with this seller before, under another name perhaps?
I block people who retract bids on items. That bit a guy one time as he came back like a year later to try to buy a similar item. Then I got the angry email asking why and I don't know that I even answered.
The good news is you are not limited to one eBay ID. While it's technically against the rules they have no way to stop you from using a second ID to buy an item when a seller has blocked you from a first ID. I've done it before.

When I google my_caboose it seems to indicate Caboose Hobbies or it might be used by the replacement store, Caboose. Caboose is in dire financial straights presently and I wonder if the "block" is a side effect of them being possibly on the verge of bankruptsy. Don't know. I do know there are some customer complaining they were charged and have not gotten merchandise ordered and are in dispute to recover the charges with the bank.

In the Ebay sales they have, they are claiming to only be able to go to the store one day per week to fill and ship orders.

Which is what I have been saying all along. Caboose. I was only pointing out what was coming up in google searches which is probably stale/cached info. Most, if not all know that Caboose Hobbies is gone almost 4 years now.
Anyhow ... we've beaten that horse enough, moving along ... I wonder if the blocked status is related in some way to Cabooses dire circumstances.

The only time I've had that happen was because they would only ship to the billing address. I typically have my items sent to my work place so they don't get left on the porch.
As for selling, I set the non paying bidders to it's highest setting from the beginning, and later found it was better for me to only ship to the US.
I've also blocked bidders that had given me unfair feedback. The last one I blocked gave me neutral feedback on n-scale items because they had rapido couplers and they to needed to be upgraded to knuckle couplers. Nevermind the fact that you could see the rapido couplers in the photos.
For me it's about cleaning house, more than it is about making money. So if they've been a headache to other sellers or myself, I don't need to deal with them.
