Does anyone have a copy of the April 1978 issue of Model Railroader magazine? I have a question about the articles on page 112. Please PM me.

Thanks Colin. I have an earlier issue with a similar article and I'm trying to figure out if this one is a duplicate or of it's materially different.

What was the article about? I didn't save all of my old magazines, but if I remember the article I would know if I saved the magazine or not and would save me searching for it if it's long since been recycled.

It was about a CP 4-wheel caboose. I have the article on that topic from the Nov 1975 issue. Are they basically the same article?

The 1978 article is a how-to article about building the caboose in the 1975 article, or specifically building an underframe by cutting down a 6-wheel passenger truck.

Thanks very much for this. It sounds like the later article is indeed worth my while. I'll try to track down a copy of that issue. I am finishing a model of CP 3007 and had been referring only to the 1975 article plans and poor quality photos.

Honestly I don't think it is worth your while. There's no prototype photos and the drawing is just a N-scale copy of the one in the earlier article. It's basically all just about how to cut down a passenger truck to make a (N-scale) bobber frame with a wheelbase that's a scale foot longer than prototypical, finishing the rest of the caboose is just an afterthought.

Oh okay then, thanks for the heads up. I agree that doesn't seem worth the cost and hassle of shipping and everything. Grandt Line makes beautiful pedestal parts (5236) that could be used with styrene to make the proper 9' wheelbase. Using a passenger truck is an interesting idea but not really the direction I wanted to go with this.
