Any bets that Wally's next release of 86' auto parts cars will be $52.95, with some unidentifiable "upgraded tooling" and "road specific lettering."? And Athearn will be back with their formerly $5 car in the mid-$40s range. Meanwhile, dozens of each will be hitting Ebay tonight!

Wondering if all the past HO models were the same carbuilder as this (Fantastic!) release from Tangent. Also do the 8-door versions have everything except the body shell the same? Natural follow on. So glad Tangent made these. Fills a massive gap in high-end rolling stock. I'm gonna need a bigger railroad.

I don't think these cars ran in my neck-o'-the-woods, much (Columbia River). Except. I think the BN cars were later used for TP service, or something else very light. So. I am looking forward to the BN version of these. And more of those grain hoppers everyone likes. Ed Would Boeing have ever used these to ship big aircraft parts around? As for TP service, you could repurpose some coil cars for those extra-large industrial rolls of 120 grit...

Not that I ever saw, I live in Seattle, it 's common to see the 737 fuselage cars (for Renton, WA) here along with the flat cars with hoods on them for the Everett, WA 747 plant. As Ed says the 86' cars are uncommon here, though I recall seeing them occasionally in the '90s.

I do like Tangent's way of releasing models...No leaks, teasing, false promises, delays, pre-orders Surprise...here they are...come and get'em. And don't delay or they will be sold out in no time. These cars are a nice compliment to the new auto racks from Scale Trains and Atlas...plus the Genesis/ RTR AutoMax and Atlas Thrall Articulated auto carriers. You do realize they’re not available until August 7th; right?

Yes! EL modelers rejoice! We know that at least some of the NYC and CPAA cars served the Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Mahwah, NJ. The SP ones are also good as they were assigned to the Ford parts plant on the D&H in Green Island, NY, and would have traveled through the interchange with the EL at Jefferson Jct. While most of the EL-D&H interchange was conducted at Binghamton, high/wide traffic such as these SP high cubes would not fit through the tunnel at Belden Hill on the D&H and had to be interchanged at "Jeff Jct." which was the connecting track between the EL and D&H near Starrucca Viaduct. The EL wheel report collection has one of the SP cars going loaded west for interchange to the N&W in Huntington, IN, and consigned to Ford Motor Co in Pico Rivera, CA.

You'd used to see these quite a bit: Ed We still handle a few of these a week, though they aren't in that flashy paint anymore. Photograph them while you can, Boeing pulled the plug on the 747 www.nytimes.com/reuters/2020/07/30/business/30reuters-boeing-results-747-history-factbox.htmlThe damage done to Boeing by MacDac is almost irreparable. Atrocious management. That's what happens when you hire a Proctor & Gamble / bean counter guy to run an airline company (McNerney and certain other predecessors). Used to be the absolute best on the planet. How many companies have we seen this happen to? Look at the tourist RR's and branchlines that run ancient but bulletproof locos. More GP7/9's and EMD switchers survive than U-boats, to cite one example. I suspect newer locos will hit the scrap heap even sooner. Nothing is overbuilt. Everything is just "Good Enough". \thread derail Still delighted over the Tangent announcement!

Back on track ...
It will be interesting to see what varations there are. Welded vs. Riveted?
Are the others all going to be Greenvilles as well, or will we see any Thralls? I'd love to see some Thralls as well.

Those cars look fantastic. I ordered a few myself. Can't resist 'em. I hope he does the C&EI and MP versions (his type "E" car) in the future...but I will mostly likely order a couple of them too.

Oddly enough, the MP cars in the 271510 - 271749 series was one of the most common freight cars in the EL wheel report collection, probably because so many were in assigned service between Chicago Stamping in Chicago Heights, IL, and Mahwah Assembly in NJ.

Amen to the last suggestion! I remember when GM's plant in Lordstown, Ohio, was brand new. That's now having hard times, if it's open at all. The assembly plants in Tarrytown, NY and Framingham, MA are long gone. I wonder what the active assembly plant that's farthest northeast now is.

p36 of RMJ here magazine.trainlife.com/rmj_2000_9/ seems to indicate the Athearn was a Thrall / Paccar model. Definitely need side by sides of all 3 or 4 to understand the differences (model or prototype, preferably both)

The Pullman-Standard has the straight sills up until the stirrup, with the reinforcement posts along the side sheet edge. Very tell-tale. www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1279348Thralls, for my eyes, are distinguishable the quickest due to the straight skirt with recessed end sheets that dont span the whole vertical area. Having never compared the build variations, I also notice many have that notch on the sill over the truck face. www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2568470The deep fishbelly style skirt on the Greenville has always been the main spotting feature for me, same as the PS vertical reinforcements.

Greenville’s were all riveted side panels and they made more of the two door versions versus very few 4 door versions.
Thrall’s were mostly welded side and had different end panels than the Greenville cars.
The Athearn 2 door car is a hodge podge of the approximate Greenville side panels but they are welded rather than riveted.
The Athearn 4 door car is an almost perfect representation of the Thrall car.
Walthers is a Pullman Standard car.
There is no model of the PC&F car nor the Despatch Shops car that was built for the PC and DT&I.
