Just received this email:
GREAT SCALE MODEL TRAIN SHOW OCTOBER TIMONIUM SHOW CANCELED
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
This message is being sent to all names on our email list of attendees. If you are also an exhibitor at our train shows, this may be the second time you receive this notice.
We are canceling the October 3 & 4 show owing to circumstances which force us to do so. Among the primary drivers of this decision are the following:
· Although Maryland has effectively controlled spread of COVID, many of our attendees and exhibitors reside in areas where the scourge has been less effectively controlled, or otherwise been subject to new outbreaks in recent days. As a “magnet,” our show would concentrate too many potentially exposed people in one place at one time.
· Quarantine requirements are required by some States and areas for those who return from trips beyond their home. Even assuming the most ideal conditions at our show, some who travel to it would be required to isolate themselves upon returning home.
· The collective sentiment of attendees and vendors alike indicates a high index of caution about coming to our show, or even any visits of any kind beyond their immediate surroundings.
· Many of our constituents are seniors, including those with underlying health conditions which make them especially vulnerable.
· Even with controls which exceed the CDC and local guidelines, the potential huge consequences of exposure vastly outweigh the imagined low chances of infection. Moreover, effective monitoring of compliance and policing of violations is a nearly impossible task given the size of our show.
· Finally, our polls tells us a very low (and decreasing) number of dealers and attendees would come to the show. At a time when preserving our assets and income is most important, running a money-losing operation is as irresponsible as exposing ourselves to a potentially lethal health challenge.
The February 6 & 7 show is still scheduled, for now.
We regret the cancelation and our positive that everyone understands the reasons for it.
We appreciate your patience.
Sincerely,
Scott and Mike
