The Reading & Northern has released a photo of its new paint scheme on an SD50. The unit will be on display at Jim Thorpe this coming weekend (August 15 & 16). www.facebook.com/groups/88592391823/Any comments on the color choice? It will certainly be very noticeable, but I wonder if the red will fade to pink like on some older BNSF diesels with the Santa Fe war bonnet scheme. Thanks, Mark

.... I wonder if the red will fade to pink like on some older BNSF diesels with the Santa Fe war bonnet scheme. It wasn't painted by GE Erie, so no, it probably won't fade.

Comments on the color choice:
The extent of the fading of the red (red-orange?) is kinda up for grabs. The orange on BNSF engines seems to have faded at varying rates. I sincerely hope someone did some fade testing on the paint before choosing it. Then, of course, there's the repaint spacing. It definitely has to be closer compared to Penn Central.
I'm worried about the white. Not fading, of course, but getting dirty.
Of the scheme generally, I like it. Maybe not tons 'n tons, but it looks pretty decent. When new.

That's sharp. Very nice, but not very "reading" anymore.

One's opinion of the scheme might be colored by whether one has a "special interest in Reading. I do not.

That scheme has no relation to any Reading scheme.

I'm more impressed that in this world of 1000's of stored engines they have SD50's still toiling away considering they were considered problem children back in the 80's.

That scheme has no relation to any Reading scheme. For clarification: My point was that that might be irritating to people who wish it did. And that I was not one of them. As an example: Suppose SP&S 700, which is being restored for continued service, were popped out in Daylight colors. That would likely send an SP&S fan into fatal fits. To a B&O fan, it might look rather nice. Maybe. Ed

I'm glad you clarified. They have schemes already that are not Reading already and certainly ones that are Reading schemes. That scheme has no relation to any Reading scheme. The Santa Fe red held up well on the EMD units - the GE’s not so much.

Anything is better than soulless GEVIL's Every night when I go to work, I feel like it's "a deal with the devil" when I climb up those steps.
Gimme some real engines! EMDs!
