Building locomotives looks like fun too. I'm sure everyone has seen the GE commercial. However, both jobs are dangerous, "hard work", maybe easier than 100 or even 50 years ago, but still your chances of dying are higher than most jobs today. Emergency service workers (police, firefighters) are still at the top of that list. God bless them for their service. I have a great deal of admiration for those folks that answer the call everyday. Would I work for the railroad? If I was 20 years younger, that's a big YES SIR! I tried 30 years ago, they weren't hiring, but then in the late seventys, nobody was. Like now jobs were hard to find. Regards Charley.

The nice thing about working in small scale railroading, is that it's safe. The worst things that ever happened to me was dropping lumber on bare feet, smashing my fingers between the wall and the layout, gluing my fingers together, gluing my fingers to projects, sitting in a pile of screws, almost electrocuting myself when a screwdriver slipped and jammed into an electrical socket, having a layout fall on my head (don't even ask), plus numerous slips with the exacto knife. Yes model railroading is the "safe" way to experience railroading.

What's funny, is that as I'm reading this, I'm working on getting super glue off of my finger. I think when I'm gluing, that Dee is going to have to come over and supervise me.
