Yes, I know it's free, but I haven't looked at an issue in months. I have never seen anything that interests me in it, and I mean never. I even subscribed to the Running Extra for a year. Am I missing something? I just got tired of scrolling through 30 (or so it seems) pages of SP passenger car modeling, or a LOOONNNGGGG Dcc article. They always boast of it being 200 pages, but with articles like that, it's easy to reach that. Hell, why stop at 200...make it 400...just add a couple more articles!

I read through it every month and save the articles that will be helpful as I build a layout or techniques I can use to scratchbuild or other tasks much like what I do with MR.

I read it, but I also got very tired of the seemingly endless DCC articles. I'm not in the hobby to learn the nuances of electronics.
Saying that, they "print" what they receive I'd guess, so submitting modeling articles would probably be welcomed. Running Extra seems to have more of those type of articles.
On the flip side, I haven't picked up an issue of MR in years.

I've read it some over the years but I haven't really taken to reading magazines on my computer screen or smart phone. Maybe if I had a big tablet but I don't. They seem to do a very good job. But I don't read MR magazine anymore either.

I read it occasionally. I always forget about it. I don't post on their forum either. I do read through posts once a week or so.

I thought it was a great concept, but nope. Just got tired of wading through the massive amounts of advertising. Seems like it was always 3/4 of a page of advertising and the rest was the article, thus it took forever to read something.

Glad to hear it’s not just me. I receive an online O scale magazine that’s about 100 pages long. To me, it is the way they should all be because it looks more like a print magazine. The articles aren’t long and there is good balance between ads and articles. MRH doesn’t have that balance.

I do read articles in it if they interest me and often they do.

Don't get me wrong, I hate advertising a lot too but it's part of the economic engine. But for MRH, that revenue has been dropping to the point they have been having to modify their business model. Advertising has shifted from hard copy to electronic/online, but many advertisers have found they can get the word out with little or no cost on FB, and other platforms so have dropped off as paying advertisers on online magazines.

I read it because of the reminder I get with the Running Extra subscription each month. But I have some of the same feelings about it mentioned above. I also subscribe to RMC and I don't get much out of that either. MR hasn't been interesting to me in years. I also understand that you can't complain about the content if you don't submit the articles. Not much time for anything like that around here.

I wrote several articles around 15 years ago for a small narrow gauge magazine, and all were published. That magazine went under several years after that. I don’t want to jinx another magazine!

When I have done articles for White River (RF&RR) they were published immediately. I have been told time and time again that if you are not in the Kalmbach "club" of authors, your work will very likely get shelved until they need filler material. I know one friend has said stuff of his has sat for over a decade. Why bother submitting articles, when there is a good chance they wont see the light of day? I dont know how MRH works, nor do I really have an interest. If I do more articles, it will be with WRP. Good bunch of younger guys there that are really pushing the hobby in a good direction in my eyes.

I read and skim -- it arrives in my inbox. Sometimes I click on an ad. For example I just clicked one about some little magnets for hoses, so that in a way the hoses auto connect between cars when coupled -- and I thought it seemed kinda cool. Well I assume it only half works but I kinda liked it anyway. I had never heard or seen of this product before until seeing it there. And I think they have some interesting stuff like that in their ads from time to time which is a big reason I at least skim through it.

MRH and the paid Running Extra have become my primary "general" US model railroad magazine. I pick up MR and RMC every month at my local hobby shop but they have little interest. RMC is better than MR which is just a 15 minute bathroom read and then into the recycle bin. I buy them to support the hobby shop. I also buy the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette.
Perhaps living on the west coast I find the Pacific coast geographical flavor of MRH/RE and the Gazette more appealing as well.
But then I also subscribe to online British Railway Modeling and the ultimate build it yourself from brass magazine Model Railway Journal which is so 20th century and far from online that it doesn't have an email address. Lately I also spend a lot of time on the groups.io forums with a lot of fellow rivet counters (who also measure the diameter of the rivet head.) Online Zoom meetings have also taken up a lot of my time.
I actually scan the Atlas Rescue forum infrequently as my preferred period for modeling is 1950-54 and steam/diesel transition. The other forum is the British RMWEB which has superior forum software and full time professional forum management.

I read MRH every month usually spend 10-15 minutes with each issue. Like the other magazines, sometimes they have an article that really interests me.
