There's a ship stuck in the Suez Canal: Yikes! "Hit the horn, Mikey! We got places to be." Ed

Three point turn not working so well?

Maybe if they'd had a few less containers they could have seen over the top of them, and avoided this.

Forbes reports "they" got the snout free from the shore. A photo seems to agree. It's supposed to be cleared either today or tomorrow.
Good work, guys! Of course, you were inspired. Take the rest of the week off, with pay!

We were a day late but hey, we got twice as many containers through!

Maybe if they'd had a few less containers they could have seen over the top of them, and avoided this. If we all bought half as much stuff, there would be half the number of containers.

It's supposed to be cleared either today or tomorrow. Nope. Still stuck. Might take weeks. They need to remove 500,000 to 700,000 cubic feet of sand.

I read oil prices may go up in regions who are dependent on tanker delayed here. I imagine this is going to cause the owner of that ship to take a big financial hit!

I imagine this is going to cause the owner of that ship to take a big financial hit! Maayyybeee.... Seems there might be some insurance companies involved, many of which will be looking through their contracts to see if they can get out of payment. Then there's the fact (well, I THINK it's a fact) that there was both a ship's captain and an Egyptian pilot. And the wind. And sand. The reason to HAVE a pilot is to deal with particular local conditions*. Looking at the closeups of the bow, the ship itself doesn't look damaged. So, that's a big plus for the owner of said ship. Ed *I fondly remember when a ship's pilot managed to hit a pier of the Bay Bridge. And tried to blame it on just about everyone/everything else.

That's what I've been reading. And insurance companies too, which will affect their premiums.
Speaking of containers, I've read that shipping costs for a container from asia to the west coast have shot up a great deal, like from memory around six or seven hundred to around 3k or more. That's going to hit the prices of our toys too I imagine.
How about the barge that hit the pier of a train bridge in Louisiana sending an Amtrak train into the river!

Actually even the 3,000 seems cheap, when I worked in Alaska back in the 90’s it was 4,400 from Seattle to Anchorage. I also read where the ship may be getting structural damage because it is not flexing like it would while moving. Rick Jesionowski

Kinda funny how one ship that commits drift destroys world trade and prices sky rocket. I read somewhere that cost **Billions** of dollars.

Yeah, it appears there is going to be a lot of arguing over who pays. Some will likely be passed on to the consumer, some to the insurance companies.

I imagine this is going to cause the owner of that ship to take a big financial hit! I can imagine a burley fellow looking thru his black hoods for a new one while a manservant (personservant in PCese) stropping the edge on the axe....
