So with MAP pricing dealers can not advertise prices lower that the MAP set by manufacturer. But yet many dealers actually sell below MAP.
As far as MB Klein is concerned, was wondering how they handle that situation when ordering via the web site. Do they in fact sell below MAP, an if so how is that reflected when you place an order.
TIA. Bob

AFAIK, mbk does map pricing where required. After a certain period (30day?) They no longer are held to map.

Most places for MAP type stuff, it shows the discounted price when you add it to your cart.

I placed a Genesis engine in my cart, when thru checkout up to the point of entering CC info, and it still showed MAP. Maybe if you complete the CC info and actually place an order it reduces the price. I wasn't willing to take that chance.
That's why I posted this hoping someone had actually been thru the entire ordering process.

As far as Athearn products go, MB Klein sells at the MAP price. They used to advertise the MAP price and then had you put it in the cart to see their actual selling price, but that's not the case anymore. I was just looking at a Genesis SD70 that was released more than 90 days ago and Klein is still selling it at MAP price. KATO has a MAP policy too, but you get a lower price when you add something to the cart. The advertised price for a P42 with sound is $398, but the price in the cart is $299.99. Thankfully there are other dealers you can buy from that sell Athearn Genesis below MAP. Bob

"Add to cart to see price" As I indicated tried that and still showed MAP! I would guess there's a problem with your browser or settings, then. It works exactly that way for me on Mac OS, Windows, and IOS, using Safari, Firefox, Chrome and Edge.

My impression is the MAP pricing is something dealers are supposed to follow or they are breaking the agreement with the manufacturers. Otherwise, what's the point?

My impression is the MAP pricing is something dealers are supposed to follow or they are breaking the agreement with the manufacturers. Otherwise, what's the point? It's the price shown on the website, this keeps someone from undercutting the price and getting the web crawlers to point to their page. The "reduced" price requires additional steps, so the web engines can't find it.

I've never gotten that far into the weeds with MAP. But like nebzephyr, I clicked on items and the MAP prices still showed. If it was a price I didn't want to pay, it was a no sale. I guess the webcrawlers won.

OK, I tried this on 3 different browsers and got the same results. This is a snapshot of the page right before you enter CC info. Now MAYBE once you enter your CC info it reduces the price, but again not taking that chance. Bob

Maybe give them a call? FYI, Trainworld is listing the same model at $212.99

[It could be the case that they are required to hold MAP price for so many days after release. Maybe give them a call? FYI, Trainworld is listing the same model at $212.99 I thought MAP pricing had to be held to for a particular amount of time, like 30 days. Then it no longer had to be enforced. Of course if you are in the MBK rewards club, you can get free shipping for orders $99 or over, so if you could get the good price there, it would save over Trainworld. Plus you earn reward points that can be redeemed for 15, 20 and 25 off coupon codes.

I just went to their website, and I don't see anything, anywhere, about the price being different than what is listed. Here is a copy of what MAP looks like:
Kato N 1068706BNDL VRE Capital Commuter Complete Bundle 6-Unit Set $275.00 (Add to cart for our price)

Bob, bnsf971 still doesn't get it. Just because it doesn't say MAP price doesn't mean it isn't. MBK lists Athearn at the MAP price (and they don't spell out that it's MAP price). Other Manufacturers that aren't as strict as Athearn (such as KATO) will allow lower pricing when put in the cart. While MBK doesn't lower their price after 90 days on Athearn, I've noticed that others such as Lombard Hobbies, Yankee Dabbler and Tony's Trains will lower their prices when MAP expires. BTW Lombard's is selling DCC ready triclops for 189.99. OK, I tried this on 3 different browsers and got the same results. This is a snapshot of the page right before you enter CC info. Now MAYBE once you enter your CC info it reduces the price, but again not taking that chance. Bob

I ALSO FULLY get discount offers from MAP pricing, which obviously some people here refuse to get. If there is no "click here for price", there is no MAP discount. If you want it cheaper, take a chance on it still being there, and wait. If you want it, suck it up, Buttercup, and pay the price listed.

Horizon Product advertisements stating “Call for price”, “Click here for better price”, “Prices too low to mention”, “Our manufacturer won’t let us tell you the price”, “Make an offer”, “Log in to see lower prices”, or other language or symbols implicitly violating the spirit of MAP. There is no specification of how long MAP is in effect for a product.

There is no specification of how long MAP is in effect for a product. My experience with a couple dealers that DO sell below MAP on Athearn use this process.
1) they list the Athearn product at MAP on their web site 2) they verbally state the discount price to you on the phone 3) they will NOT sell via their website "ordering process" below MAP 4) they will manually invoice you at the discounted price, NOT via the web site
Seems like an "old school" way of doing business in today's environment, but in my experience it works if you want to get a discounted price.
