Good morning all. I'd like to share the last of the 3 Intermountain flats I have been working on. Don't worry, I won't be boring you anymore flats for a while. This one was inspired by the photo of OTTX 91545 below. I didn't have any more trailer train cars so I went with this ATSF car instead. I replaced the trucks with some Kadees and added Plano cut levers. The air hoses are from Lines West, and to be perfectly honest I had very low expectations on the durability of them. However I was pleasantly surprised how well they held up during general handling. They even took a few bumps and didn't break. I kept the weathering off the reporting marks to make it look like it was recently re stenciled. The paint was messed up from the factory on one side by the "334" but I decided to leave it that way, maybe the carman was having a rough day. The crane is a Preiser model. It came red for a German fire department or something so I repainted it and added a few small details, decals and light weathering. I finished everything up with some Alkem chains. That looks fantastic! Absolutely love the crane, and the flat car - the deck in particular - looks great. Thanks for the info about the Lines West brake hoses, I’ll have to check those out.

Conrail 6458 and 6381 lead a manifest freight (a test train of sorts) across the newly installed girder bridge on the former HD&O mainline at Summit. This shot was taken after the old bridge, a damaged through-truss, was replaced after being too short to accommodate future mainline expansions. Installation is still not complete, as there is nothing supporting the bridge in the middle from underneath. At TMRCI, Union NJ.

Easy upgrade fun with parts from Moloco, Plano Model Products, Kato and Plastruct. Getting a little further along on this Tangent Greenville, the picture reference is from a 2007 issue of "The Prospector", which has a nice article about Rio Grande's operation of the Ford Fast train. Some more PC fun, happy to say this model is also on Tangent's website. Happy Sunday, Mark Hills

Excellent work on that crane load on the flatcar. Everything looks just right on it especially the way it is secured to flat.

Good for 1983 through the 80s at least. The numbers they wear aren't correct, though. If I remember correctly they should be 5404xx instead of 5504xx. The first one of these trailers was numbered in the 5504xx series but renumbered before it went into service. Having said that, I will let it go. The striping is more of a problem than the numbers anyway.

What did you use for the new landing gear and wheels? Thank you! I used A-line's Wabash landing gear and their two-hole steel wheels and tires (trailer dress-up kit?). The tires themselves have a lot of flash and the molds for the wheels are beyond worn out. I wish it was more cost-effective to print my own wheels and tires, but it adds a lot to the cost of the trailer. The A-line parts are still a good deal despite their flaws. FYI, anyone who models 70s and 80s trailers, take a look at A-line's early ThermoKing nose-mount reefer unit. It is gorgeous. I'll end up doing a few nose-mount 40' reefers just on the strength of that part.

Pardon my lateness... I finally finished another of my B&O cars, this time some variant of the M-68: PS kit assembled in DuBois. Pretty much a stock Intermountain kit with modded side sills, Genesis roof, and Moloco roofwalk. Another project is this fuel oil storage tank that WM had at the Hagerstown hump. Formerly MOBX 1132, a VERY cool car that once had 3 compartments of varying sizes.
