So far I have eight CPT&C boxcars done. My new standard is to remove all the shine from the models. No bare plastic parts. Everything gets painted.
If it is an RTR model, I may have to replace brake wheels or roof walks. I may have to add additional decals. They will get new truck sets and couplers.
If it is a custom paint and lettering, I may have to design my own decal artwork. My paints of choice are Tamiya, True Color Paint and sometimes Mission Models.
All models get the same finish treatment. Everything, except wheels and couplers, gets a clear gloss to unify the finish. I use Alclad Aqua Gloss. The final clear coat is satin. I mix my own satin. It comprises if 2/3 Tamiya XF-86 clear flat and 1/3 Tamiya X-22 clear gloss. thinned 50% with Mr. Leveling Thinner.
Couplers of choice are Kadee scale head whisker type.
Truck sets are one of three manufacturers. Wheels and couplers are weathered with pigments. I stick with 110 wheel tread.
1. Tahoe Model Works.
2. Kato.
3. Kadee.
Accurail Car, Kadee truck sets and Kadee couplers. Paint is Tamiya NATO Brown. Decals are my own design printed by Highball Graphics. Four cars like this one are done.
Accurail car, Kadee truck sets and couplers. Paint: Green TCP NYC Jade Green, Black Stynlrez primer black. Large decal herald is from Microscale. All other artwork is my own design printed by Highball Graphics. Two cars like this one are done. The green in this photo did not come out well. The green is a bit darker and richer looking.
Accurail car, Kadee truck sets and couplers. Paint is Tamiya NATO brown. Decals are my own design and printed by Precision Design Co. One car like this one is done.
Accurail car, Tahoe Model Works 70 ton truck set, Kadee couplers. Paint is Tamiya NATO Brown. Decals are my own design printed by Precision Design Co. One car like this one is done.
My next set of CPT&C cars will be six PS-2 three bay covered hoppers. I have everything I need to build and finish the cars. I just have to sit down and build them. They are the E&B Valley cars. I also am about 75% done with my first CPT&C locomotive. Currently my first motive power set is going to be an RS11, RS32, F3B and two GP28's. As for non-CPT&C cars. I currently have twelve cars done and 10 almost done. Many more on the way. Some of the cars I built and weathered will be redone as non-weathered cars.
