Here is a another recently completed boxcar models. This is a Monon boxcar that appeared to be repainted right before the Monon ceased to exist. It was merged into the L&N in 1971. ![](https://i.imgur.com/j7HUC7Q.jpg) Once again I stated with an old Branchline kit but the only real modification needed was to add a stiffener under the door to match the prototype. I did upgrades by adding a Plano running board sitting on Plano supports. I also replaced the fragile stirrups with A-line ones, replaced the brake wheel with a Kadee one and also replaced the couplers with KD #178 couplers that come with narrow coupler pockets. I also replaced the trucks with Kadee "Bettendorf" 50-ton trucks with Kadee code 88 wheels. ![](https://i.imgur.com/SbfhL00.jpg) The car was painted with a 50/50 mix of Pollyscale Red Oxide and Special Oxide Red (almost out of it) and then lettered it with Model Railroad Supply Monon decals. ![](https://i.imgur.com/gEL9AsC.jpg) I then weathered it using a pencil and Pan Pastels. I kept the weathering light as it would have seen only a couple of years of service for my era.

Nice model!
Could this be hauling another load of automotive insulation material from Globe Industries in Lowell, Indiana, to the Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Mahwah, NJ, via the Erie Lackawanna connection in Wilders, Indiana? The EL wheel report collection has a few of these cars in that service, although not MON 21008.
