On my desk this morning......... An Atlas GP40 that will become D&RGW #3082, some under frame additions. Some de-burred Kato GP35 chassis, they'll need a bit more work but I'm pretty happy with this as a start, I already have four units of my planned 7 unit roster finished. these will be one Ph.I unit, one Ph.II, both lead unit qualified and one Ph.II "B" unit. A bit of progress on the RSD15, here I've slipped the shell together for the sake of a pic, it's going to get a lot of weathering and I still have to re-assemble the chassis/electronics. Have a great Sunday, Mark Hills

Looking good so far! Here is my just weathered Tangent Peavey covered hopper. I purchased this car when Tangent initially released them but never finished the weathering on this car. I first tried PanPastels but that did not turn out right so I washed if off with soap and water and started over. This time I used an airbrush and weatherd it using browns, brown-black and some gray. I then removed some of the weathering using an eraser and also using Q-Tips dipped in decal solution. That worked better.

A new toolbox for the bench. I finally liberated my grandfather's old Gerstner toolbox from my father's house. My grandfather was machinist at Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding, PA, and as my father explained he worked in the experimental shop making prototypes. This was the box that was at work with him, so I’m glad to find a home for it. I mulled around with what to do with it. I thought about keeping it as is, but it would probably sit in a closet for another 20 years. I also thought about using it for my fly tying materials, but tiny drawers and bulky materials don't mix. The way I will appreciate this the most is if I use it, so it's now holding modeling tools. The box itself is pretty amazing. The fit is just so good and everything slides so smooth. All the drawers are lined with green felt. Here are some of the machinist tools. Mostly Starrett and Brown and Sharpe items. My grandfather had a lathe at home that my father sold (much to my objection) along with the tooling that was near it, so I don't know if there were other pieces that disappeared or not. I will store these for now as I'm currently lathe-less. On to the train tools. Although not intended for models I think I can put these to good use. I'm guessing that those blocks are pretty straight and those angles are pretty darn close to a true 90 degrees. Either way they're big hunks of metal which is great come structure building time. Some spring calipers and a few other goodies. I probably tend to over-measure and under-scribe objects, so I hope to put the calipers to good use. And if i do measure I have a nice little ruler that goes down to 64ths. A rather old marking set of compasses and some neat radii gauges. Those compasses marked from his apprentice school must be at lest 80 years old. The radii came in two sets and go pretty small, although I don't know if they were used more for drawing or checking as-built dimensions or both. Finally some neat old SWAG. Most of these things we look up online or with a smartphone app, but I still like these a lot. In the upper left is what appears to be an ID tag from W.A.B.Co.

Lars, those tools are in immaculate condition, what a great family treasure! My grandfather had some of the same tools, but unfortunately I was too young to save much when he passed and the house was cleaned out by my mother and aunt. It seems that generation was very handy and made many of the things they needed whether at work or at home. I suppose being a "hands on" machinist is a thing of the past today with CNC, 3D printing, and CAD programs that interface with just about everything.

Thanks for sharing as usual, gents. Hope to get something to that stage soon here.
Lars, what a piece that is. Love the old stampings from long forgotten places. I have accrued quite an interest in the built/stamped/machined locations of many old metal things.
