What type of truck is that? The prototype is the 11' wheelbase Buckeye! It's famously used on the DODX tank flat coming soon. This set is brass from Union Terminal Imports brass DODX tank flat imported several years ago and sold out in a flash! They also imported sets for individual sale.

Regards, Bobby I thought it looked familiar! I was paying attention to those DODX cars until I realized they weren't the nukie ones.

Very nice. Love the weathering. Ed Thanks a lot Ed! I've see photos of the car with one, two, three and just a smattering of white. It's caused when the cars are being loading or unloaded! Phosphorus ignites when exposed to air, so it's carried as a water slurry! Regards, Bobby

Bobby that is a piece of RR art !! What size are your handrails ? .020 ? How do you make the top appliances ? --- Ken Thank you sir! The stanchions are .015, the rails .012. The mail boxes are from the Atlas 17,000 gal car. The bonnet is scratched and the valves are from different kits. The clean out plugs are scratched. Regards, Bobby

Bobby what do you use for your open grid walkways ? I've been looking for some to dress up some tank cars with solid plastic walkways. Thanks, Ken Ken, on this car I used Plano stainless. The walk is made up of eight pieces. I double the thickness by soldering two together with silver bearing solder from Micro Mark. I leave a single piece on the ends so I can overlap with the end pieces and make a one piece, very strong walk. The plastic I use is Tichy 40' roof walk! It's fragile, but looks great! Once in place, it's no problem. Regards, Bobby

Bobby,
A question regarding the Plano parts (and metal parts in general). How do you prepare them for optimal paint adhesion?
When trying to paint them straight out the package, acrylic primer paint from Vallejo has a hard time to cover and even adhere. The spray primer from Tamiya (extra fine white) works a bit better. Another set I used some sanding sticks (1000 grit) to create a bit more tooth and it did improve the adhesion but again it isn't very strong.
I'm thinking about first sanding and after that use some vinegar (the cleaning type) as an soft acid the etch the metal a bit.
Greetings,
Gino

Gino, I've never thought about it. This car was painted with Model Master enamel as we're most of my cars! Enamel has always stuck really well to all surfaces including brass. Enamel seems to be fading into the sunset, to bad!

Hi,
Already thought about getting a automotive rattlecan with a gray primer for steel. When I put it in a bowl of warm water it should spray a very fine spray.
Another option is get some Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer and their Lacquer Thinner. That is a bit more work than a rattlecan but I need the paint to stick very well for a new upgrade project.

I can’t understand how a bit of heat would change the mechanics of the spray can. I’ll second Bobbie’s comments on Tamiya.

Because the paint is warmer it flows better.

Really? Never heard that before. I can’t understand how a bit of heat would change the mechanics of the spray can. I’ll second Bobbie’s comments on Tamiya. Two things happens when warming your spray can. The pressure increases because the propellant wants to expand more (hence the warning on the can to don't heat it to much) and the paint gets more fluent. Those two combined give you a lot finer spray. Do be aware of one other effect. The paint dries faster. Again due to a finer spray and being warmer. I just get a bowl with hot tap water and put the can up to 5 minutes in it. The time needed is based on the size of the can and how empty it is. The small (100 ml) Tamiya spray can only needs a minute to be on working temperature. Also because the can is warmed up when you spray the can won't get to cold due to the propellant expanding which cools the can. Just give it a try and be amazed of the effect. Gino

Yep, warm is good! I paint in my small laundry room, but only when it's above 70°. I used a room dehumidifier so it's nice and dry too. Living 7 air miles from the Atlantic ocean, it's always humid! Just saw your rant about the farm house and want to say that's the good ol' narcissistic Bobby Pitts I remember from before. I'm happy you said you're leaving, but remember this isn't an airport. You don't have to announce your departure. I've been getting tired of seeing the same old tank car or extended height covered hopper images that you post like every week. I bet people say nice things about your models because that's the nice thing to do even when it's not that great. I bet you will come back. You got to get your ego stroked by someone else saying how great you are. Tamiya is good stuff! I use it all of the time! Regards, Bobby

I saw his new thread title a few minutes ago but clicked on something else first, and by the time I tried to go back to read Bobby's thread it had been deleted.

Thank you Tim. Yes, that's the same old Bobby. He's done this before: Left in a hissy after some thread of his didn't get enough gushing love, especially when some other guy's thread is getting lots of positive comments. Million-dollar talent; two-cent brain.
