D&RGW GP30 #3022, EMD 2/63. Here the 2250HP B-B unit is second out on train #179, the Ford Fast as it makes it's expedited trip across the railroad, this traffic was forwarded from the MoPac at Pueblo, CO to either the WP at SLC or the SP at Ogden,UT. as the Rio Grande went head to head in competition with the U.P. for this high dollar service. Here. train #179 is westbound on the "wrong" main as it passes an eastbound loaded with PNW lumber, no doubt the dispatcher in Denver is taking advantage of the double track and center sidings to keep tonnage moving on this stretch of the railroad between Helper, UT and Soldier Summit. 3022 was one of 14 units (3014-3028) delivered by EMD in 1963, note the asymmetrical cab and one less handrail stanchion on this side of the unit, by the mid '70s #3021-3028 were made into "B-units" by the railroad, stripped of radios, toilets etc they could no longer lead a locomotive consist, although this unit would be returned to active status after being leased to Kennecott Copper in '77. The model is a Life Like P2K shell with just a few additional parts that has been mounted onto a Kato GP35 chassis, this required some time with a bench grinder and a Dremel rotary file, removing the triangular gusset and a bit from the front end weight. This allows the frame to be rebuilt to it's correct fishbelly appearance with some Evergreen stripe stock while grafting in the Kato fuel tank. The result is a much smoother running chassis that easily mu's with all of it's similar roster mates (Kato GP35's Atlas GP40's etc.) For my mid '70s time frame this locomotive is an essential "bit player" always present in a consist though never leading, no working headlights are needed! Long my favorite EMD due to it's very distinctive styling I've managed to complete 5 of my planned 7 to total GP30s the last two will be one each of the earlier smaller cab version and a latter one as well, both will be from the "lead qualified" group. Have a great Sunday, Mark Hills

First print of some ACL/SCL trucks Those are going to be nice. Certainly distinctive. In one of your earlier posts, I was wondering why you were going to all the trouble. Yep, I see it now.

I believe those trucks would be good for the SCL LC-1 that Cannon sells as a kit. Will this be available for purchase in the future? First print of some ACL/SCL trucks:

I believe that the axle retainer bolts should be parallel to the rail instead of being angled up toward the ends of the truck. Unless there is another version of the truck that I haven't seen.
Is this truck different than the Kadee version?

My layout is supposed to depict southern California to Colorado in about 160 feet of track. Last week, I posted an older picture of the Santa Fe El Capital passenger train with a city in the background. I promised to show some additional photos of the city in a more built up phase. There is a freight yard in the foreground called Arapahoe yard. Behind the yard are dome tenement housing structured in from of the back drop which shoes soe high rise buildings in an urban setting. About 50% of my layout is urban. The first picture is from the center of Arapahoe Yard looking east. The tenement houses are Walthers kits and I have closed the gap betweent he housing building with photos from the box of the kit. I have to deal with heads of the drywall screws on the concrete wall. I am planning on adding a styrene or Sintra layer with supports over what you see now. The second picture is of the east end of Arapahoe Yard. The west end of the yard is not yet scenicked. You will notice neighborhood youth playing basketball. They are Woodlands Scenics figures. Here is a close up. I hope that you enjoyed this view of my layout.

Mark Vinski I'm no expert on these trucks, but maybe it's a 50 ton truck? The spring pack is different and the sideframe is certainly a lighter weight than the Kadee truck, which I believe is a 70-ton truck. Here's the Kadee truck on an ExactRail CSX boxcar:

Yes, they will be for sale pending some further testing to see how they hold up after hours of operation. One of those Cannon cars is exactly where I'll be using a set myself.
I'm not sure what's going on with the angled retainer bolts- someone else pointed that out to me, and only this truck came out that way of the 4 I printed so far. I'm going to make some more and see if it's a recurring issue or a one-off.
The truck itself is a 50-ton Barber S-2. I had modeled the one that Tangent now makes, so this was a way to get some use out of my model anyway. The Kadee is a 70-ton so this opens up more doors for ACL/SCL modelers. I have a SCL 4740 in need of accurate trucks, so who knows what the future holds...

Was out digging a French drain all weekend so just getting caught up on the SFF topic.
Mark, those GP30's look fantastic. Maybe when my wife and I get caught up on our home improvement projects, I'll have to give it a try, that is unless ScaleTrains gets jealous enough to finally announce their own!
Jim, nice job on your urban scenes!

ValenciaJim,
What is the heritage of the six story building in the very left of the first photo. I need a larger building like this one.
Great modeling everyone!

That building is a photo that you mount onto a building frame. (My frame is a box made out of Sintra.) I do not recall who the manufacturer was, but they make great background buildings. I purchased preprinted buildings that were printed on thick paper that was not glossy. I cannot seem to find the manufacturer through a Google search. They show up better in photos than in real life. You might want to look at www.modelbuildings.org/ for a site that has similar buildings that you download and print yourself.

Working on various projects. First two Atlas tank cars who got propper couplers. I tried to give the couplers a weathered look. Although I like the steps Brian takes for his couplers I choose a shorter route. I just cleaned them with some alcohol and painted them with a mix of Vallejo Game Effects Dry Rust and Rust. On photos you also see sometimes tank cars who appear to be very glossy, so I tried to get one glossy. On photo it looks worse then in real life. But it isn't as smooth as I would like it to be.

Also doing some work a a couple of modules. On one modul the platform of the flag stop is already waiting more then two years to be completed. Because the modul had to taken back to home due to a relocation of the local train club, this is the time to continue the works. Small flag stop by G.Damen, on Flickr

I have an unbuilt Walthers stock pen kit that goes with my unbuilt meat packing plant kit and my guess is that the stock pens are the Walthers kit.

That stock pen is not a Walthers kit, unless it a very earlier version. It does not match the kit that has been sold the last several years. It is a nice looking stock pin, my guess is it MAY have been scratched. Bob

I'd like to see her handle those three suitcases. It is a large trunck. That is why they have porters... But the true reason is that it is an UK-bought item in the scale 1:72. The same is true for the thrash can also 1:72 Gino
