Not orange, but in the Netherlands Halloween isn't a big thing. So the only orange are the rust glow on the wheels.
A lot of detailed cars, like this tank car, don't have air hoses. That also means that there is no provision to attach them. This is where Kadee 438 comes in handy. This set contains besides the actual hoses also the base plate where to connect them. In this model the hoses used are from Tangent. These are made from rubber and not sytreen like those from Kadee. That makes them a lot more resiliant to daily usage. The couplers, wheels and trucks are painted using various mixes of Vallejo Game Effects Dry Rust and Rust and Vallejo Weathering solution Rust.

Can't forget ICG orange! Branchline kit, stripped and modified to represent a Centralia built car, lettered with Kohlberg decals. Since weathered, but this was the handy pic. Details West kit. Replaced plug door with Kadee doors, removed car cushioning and moved bolsters closer to ends. New sills and stiffeners, done with Archer rivets. Lettered with Kohlberg Decals. "D" in "DF2" assembled from parts of P and F in old PFE set from Microscale. Prototype was delivered new in late 60s, probably last cars to be painted in "Mainline of Mid America" scheme.

Nice work Ryan! When you draw these up, do you find an example, and get out a tape measure, or are you able to find dimensions on line?

Nice work Ryan! When you draw these up, do you find an example, and get out a tape measure, or are you able to find dimensions on line? Depends. Some projects get the full tape measure treatment. My wheels and tires were drawn that way. Suspension parts are sort of in between since they can be difficult to measure but the axle spacing and ride height are known quantities. Other things I have to rely on good photos, and for trailers auction websites like purplewave.com are invaluable. This container chassis was pretty easy because I know the dimensions of the container it carries. The bullnose pup is a different story since there are very few extant examples still around. The Fruehauf Dump trailer I did before was based on an auction on purplewave.com. Train stuff can be harder to measure but not impossible if you do it on a component level. Like the old saying about eating an elephant one bite at a time.

Ryan - those trailers and spare tires are great. Nicely designed and great prints. I still need to pull my printer out and print some parts. Just haven't had time to do any modeling. So instead of any new modeling, here are some past models with the orange theme for Halloween. BNSF pumpkin BNSF Heritage II Another pumpkin Orange and Black Happy Halloween everyone! -Kevin

Halloween is all about costumes. Despite being nominally a prototype modeler, this weekend I actually built a fleet of foobies. I needed some canine figures for a couple places on my layout. The dog figures I found didn't do it for me. Like in reality, I was hoping for Siberian Huskies but I could not find any, so I decided to kitbash some. These are Mini Prints coyotes, painted in a Siberian Husky scheme. Technically foobies, but close enough in 1/87 scale! Prototype photo on my avatar... Tim VanMersbergen

Love the chassis Ryan! Will those be available?
Might save me modeling the similar one I was collecting research for...

I must say, that a keep alive/power pack circuit is essential to any sound unit, especially switchers. For my Halloween night project, I painted a ESU Mini Powerpack black and installed in the cab of my Rapido SW1200. Now it offers no hint of a problem on my industrial module, even at a creep. I pulled it off the track and the sound kept going for another 20 seconds. I also installed a engineer while I was at it. The Powerpack is barely noticeable inside the cab. Looks like a seat back through the side window. I'm going to get more determined to add powerpacks to my sound locos.

The switcher is pulling off the siding after spotting a loaded boxcar with empty bags which cannot be seen, for bagging seeds, fertilizer and other products for local farmers. The boxcars on the warehouse track are being unloaded, then reloaded right on site. On the move, the switcher is going to move over a maze of switches, to reach the new CNW jumbo hopper ahead, which is now empty and will be pulled closer to the mainline for the local run through to pick up later on. We'll likely park on the siding in the foreground and go on a break for some beans, until notified of our next job. The picture is a little fuzzy, enjoy! drive.google.com/file/d/1fCeVt9qGP1islljZ57tSmXHGkZ5xH3rD/view?usp=sharing

Actually the 40’s have Kato cabs, had a couple extras and was being a bit lazy, so I used them. These aren’t going to go to an RPM meet, just my garage layout

The Cannon cabs are a little short on an Atlas unit, unlike the Athearn units, which fit perfectly.

The Cannon cabs are a little short on an Atlas unit, unlike the Athearn units, which fit perfectly. Kato cabs are short as well, it's because the Atlas sub base isn't tall enough, it's difficult to correct this on a '40 so I shimmed the bottom of the cab to bring it up to correct height. I couldn't find any Athearn cabs, would like to try one!

I haven't tried using a Cannon sub base on an Atlas '40 yet, the thought of milling the frame around what would be the underside is a bit off putting, so as they say, model making involves compromises - I just shim the cab up so the roof sits at the same height as the long hood, which could well be as dimensionally incorrect as the rest of the model.
