I'll start the day off with a Genesis SOO GP9. With a 3d-printed waycar in tow. In its native environment, seen from inside the yard of International Salt as it trundles down Cherry St on Goose Island, about to pull the empties from the unloading spur set into the sidewalk. Unit is almost stock. Added DW spark arrestors and rerailer frogs, and trimmed side sill to match prototype. Weathered with thinned oils and weathering powder.

I'll start the day off with a Genesis SOO GP9. Nice job on the Geep. On the building in the rear, sure wish someone would have picked up the molds from the guy in Colorado. I was able to get some components before he shut down. Bob
Here's one of the buildings I did with those "tilt up" slab components. Bob

I found a picture recently of a neat "higher walkway" 1913 GATX tank that looked pretty straightforward to make from the Tangent type 17. While getting a parts order booboo squared away with them (which they were great about) I jumped to some other old stuff. The first is an F&C/Schuylkill Ironworks P&R GHm kit. Very easy kit with some extra detail added to the ends. Next I finally got the decks put on these Cumberland Valley FL flats I scratchbuilt last year roughly following a Keystone Modeler article. Weathering these guys is long overdue. They rode on Fox trucks unlike PRR's own FLs. And finally I pulled out my Funaro ND bobber kit which I'm modifying to make a sort-of NC for CVRR. The further I get with it, the more I realize is going to be wrong... but hey, what are you gonna do? Mainly I'm just shortening it by 30 inches and doing a little bit around the frame ends to represent the NC's wood frame. The rest won't keep me up at night, or at least that's what I'm telling myself! Proto pic: www.flickr.com/photos/130133230@N03/15908431098/(note I'm not really sure if this one is an NA, NB, or NC... CV bobber build dates don't exactly line up with PRR's and it seems they were all eventually modernized somewhat, which removed any distinguishing features they may have originally had.)

Weathered these two SP hoppers: Both were acrylic washes, however I’m not fond of this method when doing heavier weathering (especially on covered hoppers). Also made a steel plate load out of steel strapping. I think I need to put something between the plates and have some banding. The load also weighs 3.5 ounces…

Sure some great looking crummy photos this week. The caboose is alive and well in our minds and workbenches! No trainstuff today but we sure had a beautiful sunset right after lunch yesterday Not bad for and old iPhone picture… Sure do dislike standard time, and I’m on the W end of the Eastern zone, can’t imagine the Eastcoast… Everyone keep up the great work! It’s inspiring.

Speaking of sunset picture, here is one I took after the passing of the California Zephyr in Osceola Iowa in May 2020. I was out there for my fathers funeral - he passed away at the age of 90 on April 26, 2020.

Don't have any models to show off really but pics of the real thing I can do... Took this one this weekend when I was out shooting with some friends, we got lucky with this westbound CP train coming along just after sunrise, with a rebuilt AC4400CWM on the point. I had this as my leader a couple weeks ago.

Took a break from my nj transit models and got started on CSX 2488 a former conrail unit. Love the units that still have the bug eye marker lights still. Model came with HTC trucks and early anticlimbers. CSX 2488 has newer style anticlimbers on the front and the original on the rear. So a cannon anticlimber was installed on the front pilot. The trucks needed to be replaced with flexcoil trucks and the ones i bought are a new style of mounting on the frame so a 5/64th's hole was drilled to make hte new ones fit properly. 20211106_185157 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20211106_185335 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20211107_105447 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20211102_172514 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20211102_172523 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

A little late, but I was working Sunday. A while back fr8kar posted some modifications he had made to a Walthers Trinity Powerflo hopper, and that led me to pick up a couple kits for cheap on ebay, as the cars are common cars at paper mills. Looking at some proto pics however, I saw there were some noticeable differences between the Walthers kit, and the prototype, mainly around the end cages, and the jacking pads. Not impossible to modify, but the hard part would be modifying the roofwalk to match the wider end cages, and not finding an easy solution to that, I put them on the backburner for a bit. Fast forward to about a week ago, and we got a NAHX NACC PD 5150 hopper in, loaded with corn starch. A cursory internet search revealed that they were extremely similar to the Trinity model, while actually matching the Walthers model just about perfectly. With a prototype now in mind, I ordered some Tangent and Moloco parts, as well as the Plano roofwalks, and waited for those to show up. I threw the donor for this model into some 91% isoprophyl alchohol, and let it soak for a while, with the factory ADM paint coming off quite easily. The first thing I did was use a #61 bit to drill out the oval lift points in the body, and added a pair of Tangent tack boards. After that, I carved off the factory grabs on the end, and got to work replacing with some .015 styrene rod. It's a little thicker than the prototype, but I wanted to make it somewhat durable to stand up to handling, and it still looks far better than the molded ones as seen below:

Thanks to all previous participants in this thread for the photos of their fine model building and weathering and the beautiful "real world" photos. As usual, my only contribution will be memories and musings.
I heartily concur with Karl about both cabooses and the unwelcome effects of "Falling back" to Standard Time. I grew up in and very near Philadelphia, where, if my memory is correct, it didn't get dark before 5 p.m. until just before Christmas. Today is November 9, and the sun will set in Boston about 4:30 p.m. Until I retired I it dark before I could leave work in eastern Mass. for months each winter. I'm told that sleep experts think that Standard Time is closer than Daylight Savings Time to the natural rhythms of the human body. But although I don't much mind getting up in the dark, I greatly dislike the diminished daylight toward the end of the day. And I really need to get outdoors at some point during the day. Senator Ed Markey and others have introduced a bill to put the U.S. on Daylight Savings Time year round. On balance, I'd be for that. The one problem is darkness early in the day in many places where young children have to catch school buses or walk to school. Proper scheduling of school hours could help. I'd really welcome putting New England, at least the part west of Worcester County in Massachusetts, into the Atlantic Time Zone with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. But influential managers of businesses would surely block that unless at least the eastern parts of New York State also went on Atlantic Time; they want Boston and New York City in the same time zone. At least I've never had to experience winter in Alaska or Sweden, for instance.

Danpik, the models in your photo look good. Is this one of the new Walthers open auto rack cars? What do the three types of vehicles shown represent? Did you produce them yourself? If so, how? Buy them? If so, were the assembled? Kits? From what producer / supplier?

My railfan shot.........An SD40-2 and a GP30, suddenly it's the '70 again. Best looking BNSF power. It sure is and thank god the 30 doesn’t have one of those awful looking replacement cabs BNSF uses on them. (I know it’s a regular GP cab but looks so out of place) I get cabs need to be replaced sooner or later but still. And some really nice stuff this week- especially the N5’s!

Buy them? If so, were the assembled? Kits? From what producer / supplier? The autorack is one of the Accurail kits. This is the tooling that Walthers now uses for theirs. The Blazers and vans are mid 70's era. The vans are John Tyson castings. He offers them on Ebay during the winter months. The blazers are my castings. I have Chevy pickup trucks in the molds right now with Suburbans, El Caminos and Monte Carlos coming soon.

The vans, if they are the same ones I have, are too tall to fit in the bottom position on the bi-levels.

The vans, if they are the same ones I have, are too tall to fit in the bottom position on the bi-levels. I don't think the vans will fit on these cars as they are assembled. I have seen pictures of vans on the lower decks of racks but the cars are not represented by the Accurail/Walthers cars so some modification may be in order for them to fit. I have seen sevearl pictures of the vans on top with Pickups/ Blazers/ suburbans on the bottom. Dan
