Yeah, I noticed it a few days ago. I thought it was just my work computer, but I tried to access from my phone, and home computer to no avail... There is still Fallen Flags, Locophotos.com, and Railpictures.net to fill the gap somewhat until it's back online.

OK, so it's not just me. Hopefully they return soon.
There is still a vacuum left by the loss of Hank's Truck Pictures years ago, which was the truck equivalent of rrpicturearchives.net. Even though there are similar railroad sites out there, none is as comprehensive as rrpicturearchives.net. I hope the site being down is temporary.

Glad others are experiencing this. Been trying to find BN ACF boxcar shots since the Moloco announcement and have been stifled..

RRPA usually steps up to the plate when Fallen Flags and Railcar Photos fall short. it would be a real loss to see it go away permanently, but it has always been slow late at night and will go down daily from midnight to about 1 am EST.
Lately I’ve wondered what will happen with Fallen Flags when Mr. Elwood passes away. He has to be in his late 80s or early 90s by now.

I really wish RRPA (and RRFF) would put a serious donation drive together for some solid hosting and web service. I would happily throw money at that yearly. It is way too much of a resource.

This is why I typically copy and save photos to my PC from these sites. The saying “once it’s posted to the internet, it on forever” just isn’t true. I have links and bookmarks for dozens of pages and sites that are now invalid for whatever reason. And as mentioned above, when people get older or pass, there typically isn’t anyone stepping up to keep their digital content going. Of course we have the Wayback Machine which is very helpful although it has its limits.
Hope the site is back up soon. I was just on over the holiday copying photos.
Thanks, Mark

I would say most or nearly all of us save to hard drive whenever we find something of interest, but that of course doesn’t solve the problem for any photos you’ll need months or years from now that you dont even know about. Say, for instance when a new model comes out and you want to know if the paint scheme is good for your era, etc.

railpictures.net is not searchable by freight car types or numbers to my knowledge. it pales in usefulness compared to RRPA.

Anyone know what’s going on with them now? I went to google their page and nothing about them at all shows up in the searches - only Railpictures.net links that’s it. That has never happened before even when they were down for maintenance reasons.

I did also notice the FB page called Altoonaworks is no longer around. Nothing with even past posts from him even shows up in the search. Anyone know what’s going on with that? I liked that page.
