Found this PC film on YouTube, it's from 1968 it talks about the goals of the railroad and tells of its operations. There's a clip of a new G43 being rolled out of the shop.

Yeah, a pretty neat film.
I've got "The Wreck of the Penn Central" around here somewhere--gotta read it.
I read a very nice two-volume history of the BN by Earl J. Currie. From it, I seem to recall they studied that "wreck" carefully, looking for things NOT to do. And the BN succeeded.

LOL, the film just foreshadows the bankrupting and dumping the RR for a cash grab of all the real estate, subsidiaries and assets. Although Metro-north RR just recently bought back the Grand Central Station and some of the rail lines

I finally got to reading the Wreck of the PC book a few weeks ago. Wow what a great book. I’m just over halfway done reading it. The one writer passed 5 years ago and the other back in February of this year. Amazing what they got away with. I’m guessing in todays world a lot of them would’ve been in jail or am I being naive?

guessing in todays world a lot of them would’ve been in jail or am I being naive? I'll answer that after I see who goes to jail for Champlain Towers South. Thanks for the endorsement of the book. I bought it when it came out, but "hid" it somehow. Next time I see it, I'll be sure to place it next to the bed. Ed

i like the film they made to show to Congress a little better. You remember, the one that was making its way around the internet several years back when GM was lobbying for a bailout. That one is a more accurate portrayal of early 1970’s railroading IMO.

Tons of great old stuff on youtube. Both the "We are Penn Central" stuff and the congress vids are amazing. I was on a potash-exploration kick for a little while last month and came across some great stuff from Mosaic about Esterhazy, SK, complete with brand new CN slab sides.

Yes, my favorites are the Harris films converted from super 8 films. Tons of films from the 1970's. I watch it mainly for the Rio Grande and SP content.

Ed I was thinking - in the book I believe it was one of the lawyers handling the bankruptcy for PC that declined to be interviewed for the book but told them he could write his own book and in his words “25 years need to go by and at least 100 people need to be dead” before he will ever tell everything he knew. I wonder if he ever did lol. Agree about the Champlain Towers.
