I have a few Proto GP7s, and I'm trying to standardize on ESU decoders for my better models. The Proto GP7 has a great harness built in for adding a Digitrax decoder. ESU seems to do 8-pin and 21-pin. What's the best way to get 9-pin functionality from ESU?

Personally, I would pull out the factory PCB board, and install a Decoder Buddy. Then the 21 pin ESU goes right in.

Is that the latest Walther's Proto GP9s? If it is the latest (the connector in the photo seems to be the latest 21 pin,) then LOCsound is plug and go.

I bought some extra Lokpilot 5 decoders from Scale trains before they went out of stock. They are 21 pin. I bought 3 recent Walther's Proto GP9s. One had factory sound but the other two are DCC ready.

From the photo I assume this is a Walthers release. I don't recall LifeLike releases rver having a 9pin JST connector. Am I thinking correctly?
