What is the waffle fix? I shaved them completely off with a 3mm Hasegawa chisel which only took a couple minutes, shaped a length of .015x.040 styrene in simple jig, this gives the beveled edge. Cut the pieces to the correct length and beveled the ends on some 2K automotive paper, taped them to an index card and shot them with some TCP Rich Oxide Red. Glued them to the car, taped off the panal and shot a thinned out color wash at it. Glossed the whole model, decalled the COTS plates, glossed the model, dullcoted, weathered with a wash of MIG Track Rust and dullcoted again. Sounds like a lot but once I figured out how to do it, thing went very quickly. Shaved waffles Styrene in a simple jig, this allowed me to pull the backside of a #11 down its length, flip it and repeat. Beveled the ends on some 2K grit.

Was able to measure and photograph the prototype bumpers for my carfloat last week, so I drew them up and printed them. Same with the bridge hooks: Also drew up and printed a Benson Electric 20HP Capstan.

Saw this Woodland Scenics barbed wire fence kit at the local hobby shop the other day. So I bought it to install around the signal interlocking at West River City as a right-of-way fence on the River City Western RR (River City Modelers in Spokane, WA). This is a great looking kit that offers a lot of possibilities. The kit has about 2' of fence with a pair of wire gates and extra posts and bracing corner posts. I made a couple jogs in the fence around the signal installation. I added bracing at the jogs as well around the wire gate. I can think of a lot of other places on the layout where we can use a ROW fence. Next task is to weather and beat up the MOW truck and add tools and supplies to the bed, and add some MOW workers.

Looks good, all. Loving the 3D printed stuff, can't wait to order a few of those SCL trucks from you Adam. Trailers are looking superb, Ryan! I have nothing but Adobe screenshots to post so I'll save it for another time.

This spring the first US model convention is finally going to happen (if Covid keeps it heads down). We (Fremo US Netherlands) are also invited to setup a modular layout. But a lot of mine modules are a bit lacking in the detailing on the greenery to the current standards. Not strange when most of them were build and sceniced almost 10 years ago. Today the assortment of static grasses is grown and mine old Noch Grassmaster can't handle the longer fibres. So after 10 years it was time to get a new static grass applicator a RTS Greenkeeper 35kV. In comparison, the Noch is approx. 10 kV. With the RTS the static grass, also the longer ones, are applied without any problem. So I started working on the modules. I added glue around the excisting greenery and added a blend of 2 mm (beige), 4 mm (yellow and beige) and 6 mm (shades of green wild grasses) fibers from Heki. The fibers are mixed using an electric coffee grinder. The fibers aren’t cut by the grinder but just mixed and made fluffy. Adding grass using a Greenkeeper 35kv by G.Damen, on Flickr I don’t want to make the whole landscape looking like an carpet so the glue isn’t covering everything. The next step is to add random dots of glue and add an additional layer with only longer fibers (6 and 12 mm) on top. When dry those will be lightly brushed with glue and dusted with fine turf to create small foliage.

I can't find any Rich Oxide Red in their listings. It looks to be a good match. Could it be TCP 082 Rich Oxide Brown?
Thanks, Mark Vinski

Mark,
Yes, you're correct it's TCP082, check out TCP093 as well, both are very close to the model's original gloss finish.
Best, Mark Hills

Got another NJ Transit GP40PH-2B nearly done this week. Handrails were painted black and will be attached this weekend. Orange paint will be applied where necessary on them and the steps along with the correct colors for hep/mu receptacles. I'll be adding the leds this weekend to so hopefully i'll be able to fully assemble the shells so they look complete. There are just loosely assembled in the pics. 20220203_164449 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Also painted CSX SD50 2488 20220203_103515 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20220203_105325 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20220203_124547 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr
