Recently, Mike Polsgrove released his 3D printed Soo Line pulpwood gondola kits. These are really well done kits with excellent printing. The prototypes themself fill a gaping hole in the ability to model Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Soo Line (and Wisconsin Central) traffic from the 1970's through the 2000's. Next up are decals, Tangent ASF trucks, a few details and a pulpwood load.

Finished up some more cars to serve the sand plant and did some weathering this week. CB&Q 182015 is a 1961 built HC-1C from a Q-Connection model, stripped, repainted, and re-lettered with Kohlberg Decals. The 182327 is an HC-1D, rebuilt in 1968 from older HC-1 or HC-1A cars. An Amarillo RR Museum model, stripped, repainted, and also lettered with Kohlberg decals. Both are HC-1D hoppers rebuilt from HC-1 or HC-1A cars in 1969. Amarillo RR Museum HC-1s, stripped, repainted, and lettered with K4 decals. Rapido F30D weathered with Trainworx 40' trailer. Zoomed in on deck weathering. Tim VanMersbergen

Still no modeling work from me yet, but here is another gem from the EMD Builder Photos FB page that is just incredible. Imagine the challenge and fun it would be to recreate this scene on a layout or standalone module/display. UP 6900 looks like it "just" barely fits between the crane supports! Thanks Mark

This morning's project, didn't get it wrapped up before heading out to work - Just some Moloco Evans cushioned draft gear and cut bars for an Atlas Blue Island '53 box. BTW, this is a Walthers NACC RBL, anybody know of any prototype owners of this car?

Just got a badly needed truck ready to print tomorrow. Optional lids not shown. Now to see if any of my cylindricals or 4650s can use these, or if I need to paint one up.

Martin, Thanks for the heads up on the website, there's a really cool Soo Line "Ragtop" trailer listed - I went ahead and ordered one.

Hi Tim, are the Q-Connection and Amarillo RR Museum models RTR plastic cars or kits?

Speaking of ragtop vans, I've been working on one of those: This is a Fruehauf good for Rock Island and Santa Fe.

Hi Tim, are the Q-Connection and Amarillo RR Museum models RTR plastic cars or kits? Both are custom runs of Intermountain 1958 hoppers. They did RTR cars but not in the schemes I was looking for so they got stripped and re-painted. Intermountain finally did the type three hatches but in their own release they used the wrong roofs even though they have the correct one tooled. They even had the correct seam-cap roof in the pre-production renderings. Both Q-Connection and Amarillo caught the mistake and made IM correct it but IM did not do this for their own release so all theirs have the issue. That's why I had to reject the IMs that I ordered and source from Q and Amarillo. After waiting several years for them to finally appear I was very disappointed in what Intermountain put out.

Gentlemen, this has been a great thread. I can't contribute anything substantial to it, but I've learned a lot from it. Thanks very much for posting, all of you!

Started decalling my csx sd50-2, 2488. Solvaset ruined several decals. It lifted the printed ink from the film or layer of ink below it and floated it over and i didn't notice til after i dried. It created a 3d look with the numbers and one long hood logo. The cab was ruined and i sanded it all over and repainted it yesterday. The long hood i was able to use the solvaset and tape method to remove the bad logo. I reapplied the new csx logo over the original location and it covered the pieces that didn't come off. I did not use solvaset and got my microsol out and it helped but didn't have the effect that solvaset normally has. I also taped off the entire sill piece after painting the top blue and then underside black so i can spray the csx yellow on the sill sides. Having a quality airbrush and setting it up and having it clean makes such a difference now when painting. 20220206_170422 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20220208_163215 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

Looks good! Your bearing details look better than the totally exposed ones on Rapido's latest truck design for their SP box.

Took all the tape off of the sill that i had put on to just paint the side sills. It came out amazing. So much better than i had hoped for. Not one area with any overspray of paint through a crack in the tape. 20220209_193129 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr 20220209_193102 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr I did notice that once it was partially assembled that one side of the big logo is slanted. Im not perfect and its going to stay. Let it bother people. lol
