Something red for Valentine's tomorrow? This week I dusted off something that had been on the 'nearly done' pile for far too long. This is a Walthers Mainline ES44AC, started out as a DC only unit. I tore out all the terrible original lights and lighting board, replaced the main board with an Athearn 21 pin motherboard and a Tsunami2 sound decoder, replaced all the lights with individual LEDs in the housings, and managed to cram three 12x16mm sugar cube speakers into the space meant for the typical oval speaker. Then I removed one of the Dynamic Brake vents to match the prototype, and added Walthers' grab iron kit, Details West MU hoses, number boards, and spare knuckles, Detail Associates windshield wipers, Hi-Tech details antenna dome, and Cal Scale wind deflectors and double trainline hoses. Finally I gave it a pair of Kadee 118 shelf couplers with the upper shelf and the trip pin removed. After that was all done I did the necessary touch up painting and decal work, and highlighted some of the grilles, etc with Tamiya panel wash and gave the entire model a couple coats of Tamiya flat clear. This was the first time I had tried using it, and to say I was impressed would be a MASSIVE understatement. I don't think I could bring myself to go back to Dullcote now. These 9300 series ES44ACs were the very last new locomotives purchased by CP to this day, being delivered in 2012. All of the more recent 'new' power they have recieved, from the SD70ACUs and AC4400CWMs to GP20C-ECOs, SD30C-ECOs and SD40-3s, were rebuilt from units that were already on the roster.

Nice job!!!! Cool to see what those Mainline locos can look like with some added details and effort.

Here's a group photo of most of the Rock Island E units I've built over the years. It was taken on a friend's layout after doing some programing on 630.

Great models everyone!
Tomorrow is the day dressed in red, but tonight was dressed in blue and gold. For the first time in my life, the Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl.
I have done a number of fantasy beer reefers myself. They are all Coors fantasy. When I have guests over and "run trains" for their entertainment, the beer train is always the one that gets the most attention. I tell the guests, it is the highest priority freight train on the railroad because the owner wants a cold one!
T-Bird--that pig is going to be mighty pretty with all that lipstick! LOL!

Nice stuff everyone. Some may not like the fantasy schemes, but I like the ones Dan showed above.

Not red either – as SXT still glues some of the stuff in the undecorated kits (which, due to the LEDs of the emergency light, is at least understandable) I had to take the Blow torch to the rear light Package. I also drilled out the front emergency mars light, but still have to do some work on it, thus no photo. As the SXT plastics are quite soft it is as easy to work on it as it is to accidentally dodge it.

I thought i knew what i was doing. But i didn't. I was going off bad habits from my harbor freight airbrush on my new paasch talon. But now its a breeze using it and seeing how controllable things are. How precise i can get. If my hands didn't shake like michael j. fox i'de attempt hand done graffiti.

Well, I got a some cars finished this week! First up, the 12th Completed Canadian Wheat Board NSC 4550CF Covered Hopper, added a Plano Roofwalk and Walkover walkways then painted with Scalecoat II mixture of Reefer Yellow and Boxcar Red along with a Black Underframe, then lettered with Herald King Decals. These were purchased by the Government due to the Crows Nest agreement which grandfathered wheat rates at the early 1900 rates which made it unprofitable for the railroads to supply new equipment. Next another IMRC kit, the PC&F R70-20 Mechincal Refridgerator Car, Painted with Scalecoat II Daylight Orange, White and Black Paints, then lettered with Champ Decals. Used to transport California produce to the Midwest and East Coast via the SP and UP to the eastern railroads. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Here is my red as a rose boxcar. Branchline boxcar painted GM&O red and lettered with Kohlberg's decals. Photo taken a while ago as the backgoround does not have any trees added and the yard is too neat.

How about this for lipstick on a pig? I actually like how this turned out for a cheap trainline car. Proto cushion coupler pockets added and that's basically it, maybe a bit heavy on the powders. Lines west switch stands. imgur.com/JzR8kMO
