I haven't formally posted here yet about my 3D printing venture, Plate C Model Prototypes. With this post I am pleased to announce that I have six new HO trucks available. These are 3D-printed and come with semi-scale (code 88) wheelsets. See the FAQ page on the site for some additional information. In addition, there are plenty of other parts available which I've shown on some of my builds in various SPF threads. I think the most recent example would be my PS boxcar ends.

Order placed. If these look at nice as I hope, I'll be placing an order for the 100-ton Barber S-2 plain trucks.

Thanks

Nice that your offering these trucks, I'll be placing an Order for a few sets of the Barber S-1 100 T J box and some other parts. BTW Do the bearings on the 100T RB's spin?

Exciting stuff. Now my challenge is to find prototypes that need them!

I wish I saw side bearings on the top of the bolsters.

Curious, what is the longevity of these trucks if used on cars that are regularly used on an operating layout? They look good.

Thank you for providing what no other model manufacturer would provide, that being the 100T plain/converted bearing truck. I will be rewarding you with my business.

Ed- I had considered it, but since the Kadee brake pads have those big triangular tabs at the top, it didn't seem like a huge benefit to have more detail in the area around them. Not ideal, but not really anything I can do about those unless someone else makes theirs available. I didn't want to print the brakes either since they might end up fragile I tend to bump those a lot when adding/removing wheelsets.
Thank you everyone who ordered and commented. I have more wheelsets and brakes on the way so I will be able to restock those that are sold out soon.

Curious, what is the longevity of these trucks if used on cars that are regularly used on an operating layout? They look good. I tested a couple pairs of them for 24 hours straight on some 18" radius curves. On the production trucks I put Neolube in the bearings, these were un-lubricated to see the worst case. There was some wear visible, but it seemed only to be the axles smoothing out the needlepoint shape and no further. I then put some Neolube on those test pairs and they rolled even better than the fresh ones. So it's possible there could be more wear over time, but so far what I've seen isn't concerning.

Adam,
I am one of the few people who use the side bearings, if they're on the bolster. For me, they're not just decoration. I use them to make a three-point suspension, so that the cars don't do the wiggle-shimmy dance. That has always bothered me, even more than the lack of brake shoes on a freight truck.
HO trucks used to come with them (side bearings), now they generally don't. I see the old sprung Kadees still have them. Central Valley freight trucks had them. Athearn used to, also; but I think they removed them for some reason.
So I think you are doing common practice, these days.

I was away from the computer for a long weekend and missed out on the 100 ton converted trucks. Dang! Hopefully a restock will be available soon. And as someone who also dabbles in Lionel, that Symington-Wayne truck just makes me chuckle...something that is on like 90% of the cars Lionel made during the General Mills/MPC era. There is so much goodness here, thanks again.
I am ALSO looking forward to the WM gondola cradles. I was planning on gluing up some styrene for something "good enough" but the photo you posted from Photo Fun looks amazing.

I'd love to buy them without the wheelsets. $10 each for 2 pairs, plus another $30 for shipping is just a tad too pricey.

My 50-ton ACL/SCAL trucks came in the mail today. Already test fitted them to my ACL boxcar that ran for a number of years ran with Accurail roller bearing trucks because the correct ones were not available. Boxcar looks much better now. I painted the trucks today and will weather them tomorrow.
The sideframes came painted in a flat black.
I think the inclued semi-scale wheels are from Moloco as the wheel faces come painted a dark rust color.
Very pleased with the trucks.

Thanks for the comments about trucks without wheelsets, it's seeming like that would be a popular option so I will most likely get that added soon.
Tom, very happy to hear that! You are correct, I am using Moloco 33" wheelsets, and Tangent 36".

Three odds and ends and ends:
My GIMME is for 125T trucks. Yes, Rapido has them, but they do not look great to me. Certainly, they don't have the depth of molding that these printed trucks seem to have. I would love to replace my antique ECW 125T trucks.
Wheelsets: I'm thrilled anytime trucks are sold with 88 wheelsets. Keep 'em coming. The miser in me HATES to order wheelsets every time I buy a Tangent car.
What are the Symington trucks for? Brief research finds them only on Pullman troop cars.

The gons and troop sleepers were plain bearings, which I haven't touched yet, but I will. Fortunately it's an extremely easy change on those trucks- you can see the outline in the castings of where the journal box would have been.

Adam, Box arrived - trucks look great! ACL 50 and 100T 100T conversion -> these are going on my EL ACF3510 LO's 50T conversion Note: I 2nd the 125 Ton trucks> There is not much out in the market for those... Also - many depressed center flat cars had National trucks (very flat across the top) with the roller bearing conversions. - see links: www.rr-fallenflags.org/pc/pc768016akg.jpgwww.rr-fallenflags.org/pc/pc766070akg.jpgThese would be a really excellent option to do, as there is nothing out there for this truck.

Almost finished with the next batch to restock, just need to finish assembling and packaging them.
Trucks without wheelsets won't be up yet- that probably sounds funny since they're less work to make, but I do still have to test wheelsets in them to make sure they roll. I'd say somewhere around 5% of them as printed don't roll freely, and they either take a little rework or get tossed. Wouldn't want to fly blind and stick someone with those.
