I recently purchased a Broadway Limited E1 and E1B set circa 1946 and am a in the process of building a train if I can. I know very little about Santa Fe outside the facts that the ones I purchased were backup power for the Super Chief. I found this photo online What I need to know is the makeup of this consist.

Unable to see photo.
Your best bet is to contact Mike Flick, owner of The Train Station in Ohio. He is the recognized living expert on Santa Fe passenger equipment and consists, and would be able to quickly rattle off some books you might be able to buy that would help you with passenger train consists.
Failing that, Walthers has released certain Santa Fe name trains in their entirety, and their past advertisements may help you out. You might also get farther by searching for 1946 Chief consists on Google. If there was an article out there, you can find it.
Trains like especially the Chief contained pooled sleeping cars from Eastern Roads, and in 1946, some of them were likely still heavyweight. Also at that date, some trains were still pulled by Santa Fe steam power.
It is not a simple thing to just assemble the passenger consists in HO. Relatively few trains have ever been available in their correct entire consist for a given year in time in HO, unless you want to pay big bucks for the brass passenger trains (when you can even find them).
Finally, in searching the SFRHMS website, there are certain files available to the public and there could be a 1946 Chief consist on there if you really search the website. Look under the individual member contributions. People like Don Nyce are dead and gone, but their contributions are still posted on the website and clickable to this day (he was not a passenger historian but posted some depot information). Find that list of contributors and you may find good consist information there accurate to specific dates.
I am not a member, was at one time, but have had multiple railroad interests. However, they may be one of the very best of the hysterical societies, especially in terms of free information available to the public and product reviews (including of the Walthers Santa Fe passenger cars that have been available). Those reviews might help you out immensely because they will tell you what car was known to have been used on what trains. Also, if you search back issues of their magazine...

I saw some at a train show on Sunday. Unfortunately, I'm modeling the later freight only era: dark blue pinstripe and later.
They looked gorgeous, especially the earliest red-orange version. I was tempted.
