Hello, Has anyone opened up their Gen 2.0 Dash 9 yet? I seem to have an issue with my right side number board LED. I love how Athearn has set up the light wiring on this Loco with posts on a circuit board carrying current to a pad on the body instead of having all the wires connected from the lights directly to the board. However now that I have an LED not working it is a but difficult to trace the issue. It did not work out of the box. The wires in the body to the pad in the roof all seem to be connected with the black press fit tabs, as well as, at least as far as I can tell, the wiring on the board seem to be connected to the pad on the chassis so that leaves me thinking either the LED to the number board is bad or a wire is broken somewhere. My issue is the pad in the roof is easy to remove but not sure how to get the number board LED out if that is the issue. It seems the cab will have to come off as well as a black plastic piece that works as a light block at the top of the nose. I have emailed Athearn but it usually is a long wait to hear back. Is there something I am missing I should try first? I would hate to ship this back to Athearn if it is a simple issue. Thanks, SB

I did hear back from Athearn and no luck. Not sure they understood what I was asking. I just need a basic wiring diagram for how the extra lighting functions are wired to which tabs on the motherboard is all I need, and anyone else putting a decoder into a non sound Genesis 2.0 with the separate wiring the body and chassis these 2.0's have. Or at least simple instructions like FX3 Right Ditch Light, FX4 Left Ditch light etc.
I did not even mention how messed up my sound version came back from them just to get one of the number board LED's replaced. It had a missing fuel tank brace, broken fuel tank vent that was re-glued, the front uncoupler bracket broken, missing a mirror-wind brace and the plow was glued on. Never again. Also not messing with Genesis 2.0 again.

So far, the only problem I've had with Athearn lighting is failure of the black plastic press-on wiring connectors. I have fixed this by soldering the connection.
If I had your locomotive, and it had such a connector for this light, I'd start with doing the above.

Not surprised. Athearn removed the Parts option from their website! Athearn service/parts dept. used to be top notch but hasn't been so for a few years. The new practice seems to be replace the entire unit, which they usually do not have or return it to the dealer. Luckily, my D9 functions properly.
