One of my friends is our club's magazine's photographer. He took a bunch of photos, not only of my train, but other trains that were running on the layout. That 6458 (trailing unit) needs some weathering but I don't have any paint, brushes, or powders at the moment. I'll sort something out, someday.

Tichy converted hopper to quasi covered hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II Silver and Reading Green along with Tamiya tan paints, then lettered with kit supplied decals. The "Andersons" acquired a bunch of ex-Wabash panel side hoppers, add extensions which gave them an extra 300CF of capacity as grain is much lighter than coal. These cars hauled grain from the Maumee elevator to the grain docks in Toledo. This is the 13th kit I have finished in this paint sceme, have a couple of more to do. Details West FGE RBL Boxcar kit, added Moloco coupler pockets as they are easier for maintenance that the ones that came with the DW underframe, also added Plano walkover platforms replacing the cast ones on the body. The N&W acquired several hundred of these cars from FGE and some were painted in the Pevler Blue paint rather than the Yellow and Boxcar Red of the standard FGE paint scheme. I used Scalecoat II Wabash Blue (As Pevler came from the Wabash) and decaled with a couple of different Microscale sets. In general use hauling canned goods. Might as well stick with the Wabash theme, Wabash GP35, C424 (B Unit), U25b all painted in Wabash Blue hauling a mixed freight with ART RBL's and Reefers on the head end. Picture taken on the Strongsville Club layout. As a note, my GP noted a heart murmer on my last visit and ordered an Echocardiogram, found I have a Mitral Valve prolapse with regurgitation, I have an appointment with a plumber (cardiologist) in the near future to see what happens next. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Very sorry to hear that. My ex-wife had the same condition. It was mostly controlled with medication, but when that heart valve didn't close properly and on time, it cause her quite a bit of temporary pain that would bring her to her knees.
Hope they can fix you up good as new.

My main project this week was building a RDG GHz gondola from a Tangent kit. The DA ends went on very easily, so I think I'll follow this up with a fixed end B&O car.

Thanks for sharing michaele, great looking Swiss layout!!! After my EL retro passion, my second best interest is with the Swiss narrow gauge RhB. Woww so cool, I've been collecting so many Bemo, Wabo, Modellbau-Atelier Pirovino for so many years.

I designed some more decals. These required creating some new fonts since nothing I could find matched the numbers and letters exactly. Dave Olsen and Scott Sanders were kind enough to share their prototype photos with me which made recreating those letter and number styles much easier. These cars were very common in my part of Texas during the 80s and were pretty striking when the paint still popped. The Chico Turn, a Katy train that ran on the Oklahoma-Kansas-Texas (ex-Rock Island main), shuttled aggregate from the quarries in Chico to the Dallas-Fort Worth area as well as whatever else needed to be moved along the way. These cars, Georgetown Railroad gondolas and Katy gondolas made up the cuts of aggregate and were filled to the brim with the white rock from Chico. These cars can still be found on the rails today but if they aren't completely rusted they're repainted in Hanson's blue and white livery. But for the most part those mixed freights have been replaced by unit trains of gondolas or hoppers of that bright white stone. This is just a screenshot of the variations possible with the decals, so it's not very high resolution, but the actual decals came out great. Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm able to actually repaint my Walthers models and letter them with these decals. PDC did an excellent job on the printing!

Thank you very much. It didn't actually start as a Swiss layout. This single track over the two mainlines was only intended as a branch mountain line for standard gauge trains. When I saw the Allegra for the first time several years ago I knew I wanted one of those and set about trying to figure out how to add narrow gauge to a layout that already encompasses the entire 11x13 room. I didn't want to rip out the standard gauge track and re-lay with HOm, so I did the next best thing. I added a third rail between the HO rails. Now, it's a dual gauge line and I'm still able to operate standard gauge equipment on the RhB line. That is going to be coming to an end though, as I'm going to be modelling the Langwies station on the Arosa Bahn portion of the RhB. I'll be installing turnouts from the main RhB line that will not be dual gauge. Though dual gauge turnouts are available, I installed my third rail on the opposite side of the track that dual gauge turnouts are set up for. I would need a changover piece of track which is available, but that piece is not available in dual gauge. Custom built turnouts are prohibitively expensive and I'm not up to building my own as a first time project at laying track.

Neat batch of cars.

I scanned the decals the other day so a bit more detail can be seen in them, particularly the differences between the number and letter styles. Every time I'd try to find a font to match the lettering of the data, a number or initial I would have to give up and start designing a new font. It was a lot of work but between these and some Union Tank Car decals I now have several new fonts to choose from for my next project.

Got the last model painted a few weeks ago as my paint booth and set up area in my new house had to be moved for the washer and dryer. Gotta figure out a good way to vent the paint through a basement window that folds open inwards. FWWR 2024 20220314_200232 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Redecalled FWWR 2018 as well with circus city decals. 20220319_175556 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr This blue is just an amazing blue. I might use this for my freelanced railroad colors 20220320_173256 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr Added correct K5 horn and correct location on my NYSW SD40-2. 20220314_195708 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr And lastly started these RCPE units. You'd think these would be easy to decal. This are the biggest pain in the butt i've ever had to do. 2022-03-24_08-25-35 by Tripps Pics79, on Flickr

Gotta figure out a good way to vent the paint through a basement window that folds open inwards. Maybe find a guy who installs radon systems and see if he can just make a hole for a PVC pipe to through the upper basement wall. I had the guy who did mine also put in a hole pipe in an exhaust vent for the basement bathroom and of course the Radon vent.

Gotta figure out a good way to vent the paint through a basement window that folds open inwards. For now I ghetto rigged it with 8 foot dryer tube into the window opening. It helps. But where I have the paint table now is where all the heat ducts hang low. I've slammed my head into them obe to many times already. Maybe find a guy who installs radon systems and see if he can just make a hole for a PVC pipe to through the upper basement wall. I had the guy who did mine also put in a hole pipe in an exhaust vent for the basement bathroom and of course the Radon vent.

Or try a dryer vent, I’m using my old stove hood, framed by some scrap lumber, and hooking vent line to back of hood.

All this talk of spray booths is awfully on topic. My window that I'm trying this time is 39 high by 33 wide, and it opens from the bottom, outward with the top on a hinge. Like you, ghetto rigging is part of the game. I have fabricated a plate that I can tape to the window jams on the inside, with a four inch pipe running out and away from the window alongside the house. Still have to test it, but it needs to work because my pile of projects aren't going to get done without it. Here is the mockup. Still needs to be sealed.

Gotta figure out a good way to vent the paint through a basement window that folds open inwards. I have tilt in windows in the basement and came up with a solution that works pretty well. My booth is a wooden box that mounts to the wall with two "muffin fans" that vent out the back. I used muffin fans since they don't have commutator's so they can't generate sparks by accident. The fans output into the wall cavity which is lined with a metal HVAC vent. At the top it opens horizontally right below the tilt in window. On top of that I built a prism shaped box that fits over both the vent opening and the window. To open and close the window without having to remove the prism, I drilled a small hole in the box and threaded a metal rod. The rod attaches to the handle of the window so it can be opened and closed remotely. It really works quite well. I'll have to snap some photos so I can show you what I mean.
