I am a new member (and new to n-scale) trying to install a TCS drop-in decoder in an Atlas VO-1000. The installation looks very simple but removing the loco shell without breaking anything has been a challenge. There are two versions of the VO-1000 and mine is the older Korean version. The newer Chinese version appears to have different shell retention. Has anyone on the forum installed dcc in one of these locos? Or can anyone advise the proper procedure to remove the shell without damage for the Ajin/Korea version? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, I have seen the online TCS instructions. They state, "squeeze the shell and gently rock back and forth until the shell slips off the frame". Unfortunately, this has not released the shell, even when fairly high force is used, and I am concerned that ever greater force will just damage the locomotive. I was hoping someone had successfully removed the shell from this Korean mechanism and had some tips for safe removal of the shell. The newer Chinese version looks much easier to disassemble without damage.
