I just upgraded from an old Digitrax DB150 to a DCS240 primarily for the ability to write to, and read from, a separate programming track. It was also nice that it has a built-in USB port so I don't have to mess around with a Locobuffer when programming from JMRI.
So anyway, I've got everything hooked up and it works just fine for running trains, but I can't get the programming track to work at all. It's totally isolated from the rest of my layout and I've got good continuity from the track to the command station. When I send out programming commands via JMRI, the LED on the command station stays unlit, and JMRI eventually responds back "306 - timeout talking to command station". I've spent two days playing with varied settings and I just can't get it to work. Is there something obvious that I'm missing?
Nevermind. The minute I typed this up, I decided to connect via Locobuffer instead of the built-in USB. In the JMRI preferences there were two options for connecting via Locobuffer, and I found one that worked.
