That reminds me of a similar switcher when driving out toward the main gate at Travis AFB as a kid. I was probably a 4th grader when I last saw it/them so memory is pretty fuzzy.

I found this interesting consist for BN 22 (the Empire Builder/North Coast Limited connector from Portland to Spokane) for October 29, 1970:
DAFX 19-DAFX 28-32-GN 1320-GN 1377-405-SILVER REST-CBQ 558-366
At that time, that train normally had GN 1145 for food service (a coach-diner) and ran two Empire Builder cars and two NCL cars. For this particular consist, the train had (besides the two DAFX cars) a full diner and the SILVER REST, with 1145 removed. I assume SILVER REST was for the Air Force guys, and also the larger diner. SILVER REST was a Slumbercoach, and a cheap way to provide sleeping accommodations.
