I am at the paint stage for my two NYC GP35's. I am stuck on one paint item.
Are the foot board edges painted yellow?
I found a builders photo of a GP30 and the footboard edges are yellow. That does not mean the GP35's received the same treatment. None of the GP35 photos I can find show ANY indication that the footboard edges were painted yellow. But also all the photos I can find are of in service locomotives with lots of grime build up on the lower extremities that could completely obliterate any sign of yellow paint.
So any of you NYC gurus. What be it?

Here's a photo of GP40's with the yellow: Pretty hard to believe they'd skip the GP35. Ed

There is this photo (not mine) currently up for auction on eBay. The listing states it was taken August 69, so the edges “could” have been repainted by that time. Although given the overall condition of this particular unit, I kind of doubt it. Thanks, Mark

Thanks a million for this link. There are great photos on this page. Found out another bit of paint information. The MU lids are yellow on some of the units. And thank you Mark for posting the photo. They do look yellow.

Interesting that despite having MU, the 2 units pictured here have solid bars across their fronts instead of the usual chains.

None of NYC's locos had the drop steps or chains regardless of manufacturer. Someone in the ranks there must have thought it was a safety issue.

Interesting that despite having MU, the 2 units pictured here have solid bars across their fronts instead of the usual chains. Missouri Pacific was the same way with their locomotives, but Union Pacific changed this pretty soon after the diesel fleets were merged. Still it was possible to find MP locomotives repainted in yellow and gray with Missouri Pacific on the hood that still had the solid end railings. One pre-merger exception to this were the 6000 series SD40-2s set up to operate on BN coal trains. Those had chains and crossover steps in the end railings.

I noticed that after the PC merger that the NYC unit received drop steps also. At least when I was doing research on NYC units into PC. The drop steps is one thing I was noticing.
