That's great news -- I've wanted Mainline to do this for quite some time now. Now those of us who are interested will be able to preserve the paint job while detailing the car.

This may come across as an odd comment. They didn't do a great job with the tank detail, but I expected that. The model shows weld seams between the bands that make up the tank body. The prototype has overlapping bands of sheet metal forming the tank. Atlas did a good job of replicating that. This is a simplified way of modeling it for a Mainline series model.  Having said that, I think I mentioned this after the original announcement, but I'm actually glad to see it done that way. I want to buy a couple undecorated cars, shave off the weld seams, and apply new bands to model a prototype car that has a slightly different design from the Atlas model. It has more, narrower bands, and removing the raised bands on the Atlas model would have been a painful process. Now it might be feasible with this Walthers car. Dave
