We can't let another week go by without this thread. This is an oldie. Atlas hopper with Plano roof stuff, patches to repair wreck damage, paint to match the incorrect orange used by Atlas on the first Illinois Terminal offering. At the time I did this car I could not come up with the Herald King set which covered IT freight. So I didn't fix the orange. Trucks which will be replaced! Trucks have come a long, long way since these 1990s trucks. Note: Changed photo. More blur, but less blobby trucks.

Those are some nice ACFs the ACF cylindrical hoppers are one of my favorite covered hoppers, I model some Chessie and Pennsy both had them. I just bought some roofwalks for mine, I'll also replace the trucks. Great job on those.

I’m breaking the cylindrical hopper streak: Just a Proto flatcar from a kit. I thought about doing individual boards with broken/missing boards; but given how they’re constructed I’m not feeling taking a dremel to the weight. Now back to your regularly scheduled cylindrical programming: I wound up acquiring this sort of stripped hopper (ends are EL still) for cheap as I’ve wanted to make one of those MP cars. Since this photo I’ve gotten it disassembled and the body is soaking in alcohol. However I took the straps off as the photo I found in the 80s-early 90s have them removed. But then they were on as delivered. Wishing I could find a late 70s photo. Hopefully atlas has the straps (I need a gate anyways)

Those Proto flatcar kits build into a nice looking flatcar. I imagine you would still weather the deck to make it look well used! Rob Spangler has done a number of flatcar decks that look very good.

Here is this week's accomplishments: This is a special run Accurail 50' boxcar that Brian Everett had made with all the correct lettering on a car that was close to the prototype. I made the following changes to the car: removed the cast on grabs and installed ladders, changed the door from 8' to 9' with a new Kadee YSD, added end of car cushioning from Moloco and then A-Line Sill Steps for those I broke off. Touched up the paint where I did the work with Scalecoat II BN Green after carefully masking the existing paint work. The DT&I acquired these cars for shipping auto parts for the various Ford Factories. Next: Tichy War Emergency gon, made with wood sides to lower the steel used on the car during WWII. Added all the brake detail to the car, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red Paint and lettered with National Scale Car Decals. Used in general service while on the NYC. Finally, did a couple of more trailers for the DT&I Railblazer train, one a Walthers Trailmobile, the other a modified Athearn that got rid of the FGE details on the trailers. Painted with Scalecoat II White and Silver Paints and lettered with Highball Graphics decals. Since were into DT&I today, here is a couple of GP40-2's with an auto parts train. Thanks for looking! The small brick passenger depot looks a lot like the Rutland's one at New Haven, VT, (south of Burlington on the line to Rutland) which was moved to a new location nearby within the past year or so stop improve safety for the railroad and the adjacent highway while still preserving the historic structure. At least two suppliers have made styrene kits for it, one being Railway Design Associates and another being Rail Scale, which acquired it. from RDA and is listing it for $19.50, presumably plus shipping & perhaps handling. Another firm may have made it earlier. I know I bought one years ago; I hope I still have it so I can eventually install it on my freelanced model railroad.

Forgot to post! Nearly 4 years after modeling it, I finally did a test print of my TE53-4E cab. Came out pretty well! I did the decal artwork for the pair of them last week, and so at this rate I should be able to apply them to the complete locomotives by around 2045. If anyone happened to see the Hoechst tank car slide that went off Ebay last week, I also drew up those decals for the Genesis GATC car. Too neat to pass up!

I've also been designing my own decals, but for the Black Mesa & Lake Powell RR's sole TE53, 5301. Unfortunately I'm struggling to draw the Native American head properly so it will need a redraw.
