?? James, MRS-1 was a Military Spec Road Switcher mainly built by Alco,83units built 1953, but EMD built some also,13 units built during 1952. the Model number sort of Ignores the earlier Military RS-1s built in the 40s. don't think that MRS the RR had any of the MRS-1s ? Spikre

... biggest thing on my wish list is the GE U33/36B's (hint hint Atlas ) they can paint them in 4 different Rock Island paint schemes + PC, CR, SCL, AUTO TRAIN, CSX, DH, BM, ... ...and the bolded road name(s) is the reason they won't likely be reproduced. Saying this now, as I never thought I'd see GP40s or C420s painted in the Bumblebee scheme.

BNSF has a ton of new ES44C4 locomotives, but I don't know if any other railroad has ordered them. Are the ES44C4 body details different from the regular ES44, or is the only noticeable difference the truck sideframes? If the truck sideframes are the only difference this would be a low cost change for any of the current ES44 manufacturers. Or a good product for one of the detail part manufacturers to make. On a related topic, has any manufacturer hinted or stated they will be producing a model of GE's new GEVO Tier 4 compliant locomotive (ES44T4 perhaps?). David

David I have no idea about the body, but there have been some minor variations around the brakewheel area, including the type of brakewheel applied. Since they are out of my modeling era, I haven't paid much attention to them.

omaharoad, Oh, it can be done, but it would be nice if Atlas would tool up the HH600 hood and get 79 more prototypes to model. Spikre, Of course I want the 0900! But since it's a one-of-a-kind model, I know I'm not going to get one unless I build it myself.

how about a "Fireless Cooker" or "Hot Water Bottle" type loco ? an 0-6-0T or 0-8-0T would be interesting. can recall Brass ones, but never Plastic or Die Cast ones. some ran late as they didn't wear out quickly or easily. think C&O ran at least 1 into the 70s. Spikre

Atlas's B-boats are wrong? I know the Bachmann ones stink. I can't speak regarding body details but Atlas did do two frame lengths versions And the rail power shell was the third frame length version maybe that other poster was talking about that one since Athearn hasn't made use of any RPP GE shells in their RTR line.

The high nose on the Southern Railway and NS Atlas B23-7 are horrendous. The contours more closely resembled the high nose U25B demonstrators than the B23-7. I sold 5 of my 6, 2 SR and 3 NS, on ebay. I kept one SR as the B23-7's and U23B's ran on the Savannah & Atlanta Rwy into Camak, GA very often. The noses on the U23B's are fine, so I kept one B23-7 to hide mid-consist on the S&A train. I will never run the B23-7 short hood leading as it truly is that much out of proportion, basically equivalent to the $9 toy F units with the very pointed nose. I do not know about the low hood dimensions as I have no need for those. Jay

Krauss Moffei units have not been done since the AHM/Riverossi units of the 1970's-1980's. I would love to see those done.

I've acquired some Rivarossi units and am going to repower and detail them. That'll take me long enough, given other time constraints.

I have done the same. When I retire in a few months, I will embark upon that poroject. The question was what hasn't been done and this one tops my list.

Genesis-level FM H10-44 (better than the old Walthers) and H12-44 (never done in plastic). Especially in SP Tiger Stripe with the barrel signal lights! WDW

Early (long with a thin frame) and late (short with a thick frame) versions. Both versions in a single photo: espee.railfan.net/nonindex/h12-44_photos/1592_sp-h12-44-yardclerk.jpg

As long as we're talking Fairbanks-Morse, I have to trot out the H-16-66. Problematic due to the many carbody variations, and so few owners -- primarily Chicago & North Western with the lion's share and Milwaukee one more than a handful. I've always thought the Loewy carbody the coolest version -- essentially an H15-44 on Commonwealth trucks.

SD40A

Post by riogrande on Feb 13, 2015 5:21:14 GMT -8
I've never heard of the SD40A so I had to look it up:
It seems unlikely that such a model would be produced in plastic with only 1 original owner and a couple of latter day 2nd hand owners. Have any been done in brass?
But the Krauss Maffai's diesel hydraulics are in a similar boat with only 6 car-body style examples that I am aware of (3 D&RGW and 3 SP) but hey, you never know. They only lasted 3 years on the D&RGW and were off the roster before my modeling period. Interesting as they were, they were a total failure. SP had some hood style KM's too, but that would require a completely different shell which is a major tooling cost for an extremely limited appeal diesel. I guess we all have our wishes but lets be realistic; I guess the fact that a few oddballs had been made such as the UP turbines and U50's etc. gives some hope. But even those were examples from a road that probably has a large following in comparison to others. SP does seem to have a large following so it's hard to say.

Several (four?) for IC/ICG, plus Soo, CN and CP. If i'm not mistaken rides on an SDP45 frame(checked Diesel spotters guide said it rode on a SDP40 frame believe that's incorrect). Only three roads had the FP45 and still a model was done because of SF and Milw(two very popular paint schemes). The question is the mechanism for the SDP45 have adequate space for the front and rear porches because of the gear towers. None were ever done in brass as I suspect not enough IC modelers out there. I would buy a bunch in IC orange and white to go with my C-636 beasts. Also a IC Extended vision caboose with porches would be nice.

agree with Ferro Kid on All versions of the H16-66s. Atlas has some body parts for the early versions, and the Train Master "C" trucks for the late version, all they need is the missing parts to complete the units. H16-44: the "Square" version from 52-53 needs to be done. then the 3/4 Baby train Master version needs to be done. a better Baby Train Master would be usefull also. Spikre

?? maybe modifying the SDP45 Bolsters so the trucks could be turned around would work for the SD40A ? think all new trucks for just one low production model may be out of the question ? IC 6006-6023,not a very large fleet. Spikre

Well getting back to the Krauss moffei units. I am confident they will be made within the next couple fo years, because I have several AHM/Riverossi units that I am going to upgrade and a brass unit that I am going to have painted. Once I complete those, someone will announce that they are coming out with them.
