The "East Wind" problem is that there are several unusual cars in the consist when it was yellow. The New Haven Grill car has only been done once in brass...and not too well at that. One could take a Rapido Osgood Bradley coach and blank out a few windows and both vestibules, but otherwise it's the old 1970's NJ/Custom Brass car. The New Haven turtle-roof heavyweight baggage car has only been done in resin from Funaro & Camerlingo by the NHRHTA. We're sold out of that kit, and it was a real bear to build. On mine, the sides weren't even the same length. The ACL "North Carolina" and "South Carolina" cars are unique (the only 2 ever). They are modernized heavyweights and have a different window pattern than anything else. One could start with a modernized Walthers heavyweight and cut and splice to make the right pattern, but otherwise you're out of luck. I don't know much about the PRR P70KR coaches, but the East Wind had two. The B&M Osgood Bradley coaches are available from Rapido. They are the only cars I'm sure of that are currently available, but you do have to paint them yourself. Fortunately, Highball Graphics makes the East Wind decal set. But the No. 1 problem with Walthers doing the East Wind? They don't make any of the locos for it: PRR GG-1, NH EP-2/EP-3, NH I-4 Pacific, B&M P-4 Pacific, MEC...Pacific? Like the MEC 470, I presume. At any rate, Walthers won't make any train they don't make the engines for. Fortunately, Division Point is doing the pre-War East Wind (in yellow) in brass: www.divisionpoint.com/site/east-wind-train-mecbmnhprr-ho/

However, by 1960, the included Budd 21 roomette cars were withdrawn from Pullman service and were undergoing conversion to coaches (ref: October 1960 PTT). I'm trying to convince Walthers to offer the 21-Roomette Sleeper with a coach interior and underbody for later PRR, Maryland DOT, and MARC service: MARC 142 "Franklin Inn"MARC 166 (I think this on is ex-PRR too) I was able to get a few undecorated cars from the original Broadway Limited release, but I know they're not going to offer those again. I think this would be an interesting way of capitalizing on the existing tooling without much additional effort aside from the artwork (if they're producing a de-skirted version that can be used for MARC).. No doubt, I'd have to have some of these Budd built beauties ! The former Inn cars are just sooooo sexy. Walthers, here's your chance to scoop the commuters !
