After a frustrating couple of hours when our website threw a tantrum we are now firing on all cylinders and proud to unveil our brand new locomotive, the... General Electric B36-7 in HO Scale rapidotrains.com/ho-ge-b36-7/This high horsepower speed racer was built to appeal to railroads in the early 1980s looking to turbocharge their growing intermodal business, but they later migrated to regular freight service, and even found use as local and yard power in their latter lives, especially with CSX. Santa Fe and Southern Pacific first samples are pictured below: Note: There are still a few parts missing from these models, not least the first examples of our brand new brass horns. There has never been a 1970-80s GE locomotive in HO scale with this level of road-specific detail, and the project needed it as well as every RR specified a very different set of features. We're super enthusiastic about the result. We hope you are too! Regards, Rapido Gareth

Oh Boy!!!!!! This one will hurt.
But Really and I mean REALLY, Thank You Gareth and Jason for doing these in Southern and Norfolk Southern! Finally, five years after I did mine out of Atlas parts. I really hope that high short hood looks as nice as the picture, the Atlas hood is horrible. I am probably in for two of these. Hardly wait to see the samples for Southern.
Now how about turning out a nice Southern FP7?

Oh my goodness!!!!
Look at that work of ART! Finally, a well done GE model!
My hope is that the B23-7 and associates will follow this up...Regardless, the B36-7 has never been done in plastic HO...and WOW, what a debut.

That has got to be, one, if not the nicest, most detailed HO locomotives I have ever seen.
ScaleTrains could learn a thing or two from you guys...

Finally, wire handrails with plastic stanchions! Who said it couldn't be done?
Beautiful model, I can see a Conrail unit (or 2) in my future.

Oh my, this is going to hurt the wallet!! Even more so if you follow up with a B23-7!!
So much for the horrid Atlas -7.

canrailfan, Actually, MDC/Roundhouse did plastic stanchions and wire railings back in the mid-1980's on their original RS-3's. The only problem is that they were pretty fragile; one wrong move or snag, and the wire rail would rip out of the top of the plastic stanchions like a zipper (don't ask me how I know that). Oh, and MTH did wire railings and plastic stanchions with at least their SD70MAC's, maybe others. The problem with those is that they didn't glue the stanchions to the railing, so they flopped around like old Athearn BB's. I'm curious to see how Rapido has done their version of it as it looks good from here.

Too new for me. Need older GE's. I'm in the 60's-70's time frame.

Which size? But seriously, Conrail Quality will follow in a future run. We wanted to do the classic as delivered large "canopener" scheme first. -Rapido Gareth

Rapido continues to show that manufacturers CAN get it done...if they want to.
The beauty of the engineering and the attention to detail is second to NONE, Imo.

I will agree with the way Rapido is doing the GE's right now I hope they do the B23-7. I am really liking the Rapido GE's!
With these details, I now hope they go on and do the Southern B30-7A1. A model I have been trying to build for 5 years and have not gotten a good start on it yet.

Well this is a pleasant surprise! I'm having a hard time deciding which one I want. If anyone ever wanted to know what was wrong with the Atlas B23-7/B30-7 short hood/long hood/radiator, hold your model up to the pre-production photos on the Rapido website.
The underframe? The trucks? They have no equal. I'm hopeful this model results in a whole line of Dash 7 models from Rapido.
I'm going to have a hard time resisting one or more in Santa Fe. Could some Southern or Seaboard units have strayed north from Houston to Dallas on the SP? It's a stretch, but if the models are going to look this good why not?

If a B30-7A1 can be done, how far behind could a B30-7A1B in Burlington Northern be?

This engine shares the same truck centers with B30-7A and late phase B23-7 units (36’ 8”).

I have no use for these, but my do they look nice! I might have to pick up one just to have one.
Are the stanchions gong to be available separately, as those will come in very handy!

This engine shares the same truck centers with B30-7A and late phase B23-7 units (36’ 8”). This may be problematic for those of us hoping for a B30-7A1 or B30-7A1B at some point, since those had 37'-10" truck centers. Unless the frame -- which appears to have some plastic components and may be modular in nature -- is designed to accommodate the two other dimensions GE used for truck centers.

I believe the frame has indeed been designed to accommodate different bolster or truck centers.
The phase 1s and phase 2s could be done...but would need different bolster and jack pad locations...too.

Atlas even manged to do this, with two phases of B23-7. They had tooling for the frame which allowed for two different bolster center locations. If you put one of their phase I's next to a phase-II, you can see the difference in spacing. That said, it's possible.. and hopeful (those phase II CR B23's with the small fueltank have always been a desire -even wth the Atlas ones on the bench). But, this is a great announcement. I only hope we can get body components, as items such as the cab roof profile, the FB sideframes, can all be used for many many things (TAKE THE HINT GUYS). IF the factory can just do a number of shots additionally, I'd be happy to inventory and catalog :-) -Tom

It would be great to see the B23-7 follow this model. I would love to see a Mopac B23-7 particularly MP 2311 built in December 1978.
