NS4122, thanks very much for the "head's up" on this!
9:45 p.m. I still don't know whether I'll be able to get to the West Springfield show, and one of these has been on my wish list since thet were announced. So, i have, with some difficulty, ordered one from Atlas, at the full list price. Even though I chose the least expensive method of shipping it that the firm offered, this is one of the most expensive freight car models I have ever bought.

Finally, we get NW HC-77's!!! I was only aware of these cars from the Shellscale decals pkg. Think they are neat cars! Looking at pics today. Most recent picture I could find was 2019, so they can work for my time frame. Most pics were from, VA,NC,PA,IL,IN and a few from WI. Unfortunately nowhere near my modeling area. I plan to model a Cement transload, so if Atlas does them I NS, I'll probably pick up a couple and add to the pool of cement hoppers. Todd: Here's one I shot some years back before NS repainted the fleet out of their original NW paint. link[a href="NW #180177 (HC77) by Russ Goodwin, on Flickr"][/a]

Glad to hear they're here. I'll get one just to have it, then wait for the year-end clearance sales to pick up a couple more. I mean, 80 bucks???

I'm puzzled, my guys should have them in stock but they have not appeared as yet. The locomotives that were in the same container did show up. I have those waiting because I want to try to snag one of these.

I'm looking forward to seeing the actual models!

No, they unfortunately are not offering NW in this round. Maybe when they re-run these cars next decade they will.

The most recent Atlas ACF 5250 MSRP is $75-80, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised at the Portec price. Still waiting for them to show up at Lombard.

I can finally get some, 1-2 each available as of 1 PM of all but MCEX. Probably won't last the day

Up front caveat: I’m basing this on the not-great photo on the website, but with experience, one can usually get a gist of reality by seeing ”through” poor marketing photos…..
What an absolute crying shame modelers have waited their entire modeling life for a WW Portec 3000 (most people need at least one of these, many need many), spending most of that time assuming a model would never happen, only to have their prayers answered and then harshly thrown in their face by laughably unusable yellow paint and blue stenciling.
When the art was publicly shown, multiple pleas and offers of assistance were communicated through multiple channels that the depicted art looked very troubling, and wonderfully-lit and -exposed slides were offered, with no interest received.
I reckon I might be able to make them work as a 1991 modeler, maybe, since they appear to basically be some nightmarish rendition of “Primed for Grime”. But if you’re an 80s modeler that’s been waiting for these ubiquitous sand cars, I feel for you.

Thanks to all who have posted on this thread.
delta767332er, too bad for fans of the Winchester & Western. I've actually seen some of their cars in New England, presumably carrying sand, whether from the Virginia line or the one in New Jersey I'm not sure.
The photo of the Boston & Maine model Atlas posted makes its color look good to me. Since the B&M cars hauled cement, they got quite weathered quite quickly.

The B&M cars still run that way today, dirty, patched reporting marks but otherwise untouched. I see them all the time on the Tower 55 cam, sometimes 2 or 3 in the same train.

To my eye, the B&M blue appears too light. They were brand new in my modeling era. Hopefully we'll see some better photos before too long.

Have to find a place to post pics.

Tom, thanks very much for posting the photo of the actual model. It looks very good to me, including its color. I'll probably want to weather mine fairly lightly, since it will represent one of the newer real cars on my roster.

Hopefully someone can post a photo of one they bought. The color could certainly be off on the model, but the product image looks weird too, like when certainly colors throw off my iPhone camera (photographing anything on top of my green cutting mat). Maybe their camera was having trouble with the yellow, but to your point, you’d think Atlas would post quality photos. Dave

Car looks pretty nice to me...but I wish they would go with semi-scale wheels and get rid of the flat faced wheel look.

MUCH better than another recent (cylindrical) covered hopper.
If the next run has something I can use, I'm in.

As of yesterday evening, the shipping label for the model I ordered from Atlas Jan. 5 had been created but the USPS hadn't yet received the package. The February issue of the BLHS Bulletin that was mailed at Albany, NY, January 8 by First Class Mail -- I pay extra to have it sent that way -- still had not arrived yesterday. Sometimes it takes just two days to get here, fairly often three. I suspect that the USPS and other carriers may be very busy with lots of other packages. plus ads. Those seem to amount to a larger share of shipments than in the past.

Had my last order shipped USPS. Got from there to here in town in about 26 hours. Has sat ever since, won't get delivered now until Tuesday because of the postal holiday, despite only needing to go about four more miles. Their service seems to greatly depend what staff is working when your letter or package comes through.
