Purchasing a back issue. The Mainline Modeler plans are beautiful. What do those say? I don't have the MM issue. Where can the drawings be seen?

I'd buy an Atlas or Bowser RSD12. I've avoided the BLI "comes with smoke sooner or later whether you want it or not" engines. Edit: Even if you discount the Mexico and Brazil engines, 69 US units is more than the C430 sold. Two to three paint schemes per original owner. Not disputing that at all. However, the C-430 actually won an online poll as being THE most desired diesel model that had not already been made in plastic. It was over on the original Atlas Forum. AND Bowser got a one-time sweetheart deal from a factory in China for them to make the tooling at a great price for Bowser. They have freely said without that deal the C-430 would never have been made because they knew it would not sell as many units as other models. It seems they are being much more careful and are listening to their customers regarding what might sell. Our neighbors to the north like to vote early and often with their wallets. They buy.

Lee English mentioned to me that the RSD series 4 and 5 would be a future product. It makes a lot of sense as the frame and car bodies are the same . I'm not sure the C series tri mounts are the same wheelbase but all that would be needed would be trucks/side frames. I do not believe we will see another run of the C-430's again. The first run pretty well took care of the need for one considering their were only 16 built. The only new paint schemes not done the first time would be the units that the WNY&PA now has and maybe some new numbers for the NYC/PC/CR units that have not been done. I think they will be selling RS-3's for quite some time. --- Ken

I think the last time I was there (a few weeks ago to pickup RS-3's) Lee said he already has the trimount truck for the RSD-4/5 tooled or in the works.

I understand your desire for the RSD-12 and I'm not trying to be negative. People started asking for the C-430 literally 25 years before they made it, so there's always hope. Of course I hope it isn't that long for your hoped for engine, lol. The best way to get more Alcos would be for the RS series units to be phenomenally successful, and they are off to a good start. Lee thought the RS-3 Phase 3 would sell and spent years planning them out, to do the mold inserts for all the different noses and variations, etc. The page on the website talking about the history of the project is well worth reading. He is trying to keep his new loco factory of choice busy, and there will be a bit of a surprise model coming, but I can't share what it is and I don't know how soon it will get announced--could be a year or two out after lots more RS-3 announcements. (I am not referring to the RSD-4/5 or the C-415 as they have already been at least mentioned at various times to various people or online).

Mr. Six is still active on the MRH forums. I used to enjoy his articles many moons ago in that magazine. I still have a number of back issues of Model Railroading and Rail Model Journal.

Mexican roadnames have not done very well. That's why Bowser killed the hot FCP M-630/M-636 schemes. Not enough pre-orders. And every time somebody has done Mexican diesels, excepting perhaps the Atlas C-424's of many years ago now that sold out, they tend to languish. If you look you can still find the Atlas FCP U30C brand new in box at a few dealers (Original Whistle Stop has had one on their list for quite some time) and Western Depot dumped those on sale to get rid of them not that long ago. I've personally contacted Rapido a couple years ago now about them actually making the neat FCP Alco FA-2, and their response was that they track the number of times a given engine is requested and I was the ONLY person who ever requested the FCP FA-2. They said it has absolutely no chance of ever getting made.
That's too bad. I wonder if this could change.
ScaleTrains' Ferromex ES44ACs due next week. I have little interest in modern stuff, but these both look very cool:

I've always liked Six's modeling & writing. I think a lot of people can identify in some way with his journey through times & railroads.

an RSD12 isn't an engine I really need... but either a 12 or 15 (gotta go back and look at the video again) did lead a train post-CR on the LV, so there's kind of a precedent enough to justify one. In fact I was surprised watching because I thought by then they were mostly in yard service.
I would expect the Ferromex GE to sell just because they're everywhere in pool service.

I think at one point, Tiger Valley may have offered a complete RSD-12. But good luck would be an understatement in finding either the kit or just the parts. There was a rumor that Atlas had new molds for a RSD-12 cut, but that was before the Great Recession. Besides if the rumor was true, we probably would have seen an announcement by now unless it was one of the molds lost in the factory shutdown fiasco in China. I would also like to see a good, accurate RSD-12 since a local shortline had 6 or so for a brief period of time. Maybe one of these years (decades?)...

The fiasco that Jason Shron had inside info about, and "explained" to us how it all went down? (Which most people accepted as true, because most people are trusting)

A combination of the Jim Six model, and BLI RSD-15 prats may be the way to go, especially if the BLI already has the heavier trucks. If your prototype has the low nose, the nose and cab from the BLI may be of use; and cutting down the frame/drive, and sills to the RSD-12 length. The lengthened Atlas hood from Six would still be the way to handle the hood, and the nose and cab if you prototype has a high nose. I also would prefer to shorten a drive than lengthen one. I do not have a BLI RSD-15 (or any BLI), so I can't prove it out, but if I were to do an RSD-12, that is where I would start.

All good ideas. Could use the short hood (& cab?) from an Atlas Trainman RS-32. Which is a pretty nice model.

Rapido was already well established in China when the factory fiasco happened, the reason they were not affected by it was because they owned their own factories- or at least as close to 'owning' something as you can be in China. If you are going to try and start some crazy conspiracy, at least get your facts straight. Rapido was well established LONG before anyone south of the border really took notice of them. They've got to have been around for close to 15 years already, the factory fiasco was what, 5 years ago?

The only potential issue one may run into is that the BLI motor sits partially down inside the fuel tank. I ran into that issue when I tried to shorten the fuel tank like on C&O's RSD-15's. It probably could be done, but one would probably have to repower and rewire the locomotive.

You can't make the arguement that Rapido is an honest company (see: multiple broken promises and massive BS & boasting). So it's just a matter of degrees of dishonesty we're talking about. Like I said, business as usual for some people.
On the other hand there are honest companies, like Bowser. In fact most model RR companies are honest. A company is a reflection of it's people.

Rapido was started in 2004.
I first became aware of them in 2010 when they made the CP Angus Shops wide vision cabooses.
I remember the factory shutdown that affected Atlas/Intermountain/Bowser and others being a big topic around here when I joined the forum, and that was in 2018.
I am perfectly clear on the timeline, no fantasy here.
I will make one more thing clear: I have met Jason on multiple occasions, and while I don't have the highest opinion of him as a model train company CEO, he is no scumbag.
