so Blaine was well enough to work for someone else but not well enough to fulfill his obligations to his own paying customers?
Yikes.
Failure to communicate is one thing but this is much worse. How many people paid for Arrowhead cars they have not recieved yet?

Wow! A new member signs up today and says "Here's what was relayed to me awhile ago." The truth is out there!

Oh yes, let's wholeheartedly believe without a doubt the person who just joined the forum and this is their first post. You have been vindicated. What I heard is that he got ate by a bear, but he's still recovering and will get better soon - do you believe that? Maybe someone who has good contacts with one of the project managers at Rapido could validate this claim and that would add some actual truth to the story. Here's what was relayed to me awhile ago. The car crash was in the first quarter of 2023. By the second quarter of 2023 Blaine was "shopping around" some cars he had designed, but not announced yet. Rapido bought at least one of those projects, buying them as "ready to go packages". Eventually, Rapido "hired" Blaine as an independent contactor to work on those projects and assist other regular Project Managers with anything they may have needed. Blaine cited recovering from the car crash as well as working alone at home were getting to him, So the ability to interact with people on a quasi-daily basis was appealing to him and why he accepted the offer to join the team at Rapido. By October/November 2023 the relationship Rapido had with Blaine had been severed. After that, Rapido Project Managers took over the project(s) they had acquired from Blaine. I don't know what Blaine has been up to since then. Well, well, well. The beginning of the egg on certain faces started earlier than I thought it would. Thanks for that information. So it appears Blaine was more than able to answer requests for info or refund those missing money or products in the community and did not do so.

How to explain the December 2023 in-person announcemnent. Bookstore website hacked?

This saga is reminding me of the initial stages of the Front Range debacle.

I'll be honest, because of my connections within the model railroad industry I've lurked on here for a long time. I thought I had an account/username and found out I did not, so I made that happen this afternoon.

It would explain he would have been able to communicate to the masses to provide an update. It doesn’t verify the whole Rapido story as the focus of my post. Regardless, the radio silence to his customers, especially if he was able to, but chose not to, is a disservice. There’s a lot of ways to spend your hobby time & money. I’ve ordered & received product from Mini-Prints, Bollinger Edgerley, Showcase Miniatures and Tangent in the last week or two. No mystery, no drama. FWIW….

And this is why I limit or down right refuse to pre-order or order directly from manufacturers.

A pre-order usually costs nothing, I certainly don't take a deposit for them. Would love to but then what happens if buyer gets tired of waiting or the product takes excessive time to show up. Certainly it risks someone still changing their mind and leaving me with an item but I can always blow it out at cost if I have to.
Sooner or later we'll find out what happened here... or we won't. It's pointless to speculate, one can only hope it's a legit reason for going no-contact all this time. Or you're going to have to track the guy down in person and ask whats going on.

Since we're wildly speculating, here's something sort of plausible: He was arrested and is being held without bond until his trial as a result of the head-on car crash. It's no more crazy than some other stuff I've read or heard....

Why? Blaine is clearly an asset that must be protected. Ed

The bookstore signing was in December.
He could have addressed late orders.
But he didn't.
Maybe he suffered a head injury in the accident that affected his sense of right-and-wrong. If so, ADA law says he can't be held responsible.
Maybe just doesn't want to talk about unfilled orders and he knows he doesn't have to. Possession is indeed 9/10ths of the law, so it is written.
Maybe he needs the money more than the people who thought they were purchasing something.

I emailed the bookstore at which the book signing was supposed to take place, so we shall see if he attended or not.

Blaine's personal health is one thing. Blaine is a great guy who has created some pretty awesome models with Arrowhead and Exactrail, but the status of Arrowhead is another thing. If the car crash is actually what occured, I hope he gets well, but there is no avoiding the fact that his business took money from a lot of people and failed to deliver a product. Blaine doesn't need to reveal his health issues or injuries personally, but the Arrowhead business does need to respond. It's possible to simultaneously have empathy for his condition while also being annoyed at the lack of response from the brand, so being angry on this thread is not the same thing as hating Blaine or his family. Literally today, a post was made about the death of Bob Harpe. This occured less than 24 hours after the man died. Word moves around the hobby quickly, and it's pretty easy to disseminate news if one really wants to. We got news about the passing of John Green and the closure of Bethlehem Car Works and it didn't take 8 months. The argument about nobody having access to Blaine's accounts is also moot. A friend or relative could have easily posted something on their own social media or left a comment on the most recent Arrowhead facebook post for others to read. Nobody needs his bank account or computer login to update his customers. Just stop it, you're making too much sense for this forum with your facts and correct information. The people making endless excuses for years from now will end up with egg on their face one day but for now keep the common sense and facts to a minimum because this forum is not used to it. Serious question: have you EVER been happy?

Serious question: have you EVER been happy? Not that I can see from here. Most, if not all of the threads he has started have been to complain about something or another. Maybe we can all chip ini and get him a tee shirt with a big "-" sign on it, so he can better advertise his negativity.

I think having the image in his head, of the entire rest of the forum somehow "having egg on our faces" for wishing only the best for Mr. Hadfield, in some crazy and twisted way makes him happy. Very happy.
